About this place Viru Backpackers Hostel

Viru Backpackers is a small hostel at Viru 5, on the Old Town's main pedestrian street, with a 4.2 Google rating from about 300 reviews. It is a mainstream hostel, not a gay venue. It is one of the cheapest ways to sleep inside the walls, and HELLo! Bar and Sessel are a couple of minutes away. Expect street noise at weekends.

Didn’t get any instructions on how to get in, waited for the instructions for over an hour. Even when I got them, the code for the keypad was wrong. Had to cancel and go book another hotel. They did give me my money back though with no issues.

The room was decent, with a comfortable bed, chair and desk. It would be an improvement to have a desk fan to have some airflow, it got quite warm in the room late afternoon and evening. The codes and check in worked for me, and the bathrooms were clean when I used them. The location could not be more central, it's pretty ideal. That comes with some street noise, but ear plugs are supplied and that sorted the noise. Some better curtains would help with the light coming into the room, an eye mask was also necessary, for me.

Amazing location with a really gorgeous view that made the room feel luxury. Room itself was fine, nice to have teas and coffees and a kitchen to use if we wanted. We were able to leave our luggage afterwards which was nice.

Couldn’t recommend this place enough! The whole place including the rooms, bathrooms and kitchen areas are all spotlessly clean. The rooms themselves are huge with plenty of room to put belongings and the beds are super comfy. Location is a prime spot with many restaurants, bars and shops nearby. Had some issues checking in around 12:30am (my own fault for not reading the instructions properly) but luckily I was still able to contact someone via WhatsApp late at night and the receptionist was very kind. Wouldn’t hesitate staying here again🙂

The location is definitely top! 2 minutes - and you are on the central square. Nearby there is a cafe where you can have breakfast, supermarkets are also quite close. The room was large, the windows overlooked the courtyard, so it was quiet. There was only one large blanket on the double bed, but we asked for an extra one and they gave it to us, which was nice. The kitchen has everything you need to cook. The check-in instructions were clear and understandable and we easily got inside. In any case, the location and price outweigh all the shortcomings. The ban on walking in shoes was unexpected - it would have been good to know about it in advance, and not on the day of arrival. The WiFi in our room worked very poorly. The shower drain was clogged and it went down slowly - it was unpleasant. There was no information about the elevator - whether it can be used and how (because it is a rather old model). There was a washbasin in the room - it is very convenient, but it is very small, with such a large amount of space you can put a bigger one. The mattress was not very comfortable. The hostel employee helped us with all our requests, for which we are very grateful (extra blanket, leaving luggage after check-out), but she was completely unfriendly.
