Festheart LGBT+ Film Festival Estonia
About This Event
Festheart, Estonia's LGBT+ film festival, started in 2017 in Rakvere, a small town in northern Estonia, and added Tartu in 2020. MTÜ Sevenbow runs it, with Keio Soomelt as organiser. It does not screen in Tallinn.
Rakvere city council at first refused to fund the festival; Festheart took it to court and won twice, after which the council paid, ERR reported.
The festival spans two weekends, one in each city. In 2025 it ran 26–28 September at Elektriteater in Tartu and 3–5 October at Rakvere Teatrikino, opening with Dag Johan Haugerud's "Dreams (Sex Love)", with after-parties by the Tartu drag collective House of KuKo. From Tallinn it is about 90 minutes to Rakvere by bus and around two and a half hours to Tartu. Dates for 2027 had not been announced when we checked.
