Hotel Kakola

Extremely disappointing and concerning experience We stayed at Hotel Kakola during a business trip to Finland and decided to spend the weekend at the hotel. Unfortunately, this turned out to be one of the worst hotel experiences we have had in Europe. On our first evening in the hotel bar, a woman sat down and started talking to us. Shortly afterwards, her husband approached us aggressively and threw glasses in our direction. According to our experience, he later returned with needles and threw them at us as well. Because we felt threatened, we called the police. What disappointed us even more was the reaction of the hotel staff. Instead of supporting us after such a serious incident, we felt that some employees were upset that we had contacted the police. The following day, we had dinner at Restaurant Ruben. The service was very unfriendly, and at around 10:15 p.m. we were asked to leave the restaurant, which made us feel very unwelcome as hotel guests. We travel frequently for business and have stayed in many hotels across Europe, but we have never experienced such poor handling of guest safety and customer service. No apology or compensation was offered. Very disappointing experience.

A very pleasant experience. The bed was really soft (not good for my back) and the pillows were super soft (I like thinner ones). I could probably have asked the receptionist for pillows, but it was already past midnight when I got to bed. The blackout curtains let in a lot of light, including from the top edge. Otherwise, a pretty good experience. The breakfast was quite high quality. Parking was expensive, according to the receptionist +20€ although I think it was 10€ online. I didn't check, but I just took it to the street because it's free on public holidays. As an old Turku resident, I wouldn't have guessed that one day I would end up in a Kakola cell ;)

Not worth the price. Quite a nice place, but in the end difficult to reach and the way from one wing to another for breakfast is through the outside. When booking, we paid immediately, but surprisingly the payment had not gone through, even though we received a receipt stating that it had been paid. It caused some confusion when checking in, when we had to start browsing through our bank statements to see if we had paid or not. During our stay, a fire alarm went off at night, asking us to wait for more information. So we were not asked to leave, but to wait for more information. Well, the customers were never given that additional information, and no one answered the phone at reception even an hour later. The night guard was supposed to go to the customers' rooms to inform them, but reports have come from two different wings that no information had come. There have been fire alarms in other hotels, but the situation has never been handled this badly. Fortunately, there was no real situation this time. Maybe next time we'll go to a hotel where you can sleep the night you paid for.

This is one of the nicest Finnish hotels in which we have had the pleasure to stay. Not only does the decor follow a consistent jail theme, but much thought has been given to the room’s amenities. The Lavazza machine and bubbly water maker are brilliant additions, as are the bespoke Finnish shampoo, conditioner, hand and body wash. The room considers the needs of modern travellers by having an ample supply of electrical outlets, as well as USB-A plugs. The shower controls are intuitive, and the room lighting flexible. The bed is comfortable, and there are two pillows - one large, and one small, for each occupant. Most of all, though, it is the pleasant and knowledgeable staff members that make a visitor feel welcome. Stay here. This is a lovely hotel.

Lovely hotel with an interesting surrounding. Strong recommendation, worth a visit. Not to mention delicious ala carte.
