About this place Calanque de Sugiton

Pierres Tombées is the small cove next to the Calanque de Sugiton, in the Calanques national park near the Luminy campus. A municipal decree authorised naturism there in August 2022, the first official naturist area in Marseille (tourist office, Madeinmarseille). misterb&b says gay men use the part of the shore beyond the first, clothed beach. A rockfall closed the area on 1 October 2025, and Sugiton reopened at the end of that month. Trails also close on high fire-risk days in summer, so check the park's access map before going. Sex in public is illegal in France and rangers patrol here.

Update November 2026: the neighbouring Pierres Tombées cove is closed off because of rockfalls; Sugiton itself needs a free online booking from the national park on many summer dates. Swimming and sunbathing only.

Just a few minutes from Luminy's main parking lot, a pleasant walk through the Provençal pine forest leads you to the Sugiton viewpoint. The path itself is a delightful introduction, filled with the scents of the south and the gentle embrace of nature. Once you arrive, the 360° panorama is simply breathtaking. The vertiginous heights, the nuances of blue and rock, and the vastness of the landscape offer a suspended, almost moving moment. You feel both small in the face of nature and profoundly at peace. I particularly appreciate this place in the morning or late afternoon, when the light beautifully enhances the landscape. In my opinion, the shoulder seasons, spring or autumn, remain the best time to fully enjoy it, far from the hustle and bustle. You can hear the sound of the waves and the whisper of the wind—a true escape from time. Your gaze wanders to the horizon, between the various coves, inviting both escape and contemplation. It's a rich place, as much for its beauty as for the emotion it evokes. I highly recommend this site, especially since it's easily accessible from Marseille. It's a real luxury to be able to escape like this so close to the city. A little tip: avoid the hours between noon and 2 p.m., the sun is very strong then and there's no water available along the way. Remember to bring enough water for the walk.

A truly beautiful viewpoint. You shouldn't be afraid of heights if you climb to the highest platform. Be careful, the ground is slippery.

If you ever find yourself in Marseille, do yourself a favor and get yourself to the Calanques National Park. I hiked out to Calanque de Sugiton and I genuinely did not have the words when I got there. The trail itself is a workout — rocky, exposed, and unforgiving under the sun — but every step is worth it. And then you crest that final ridge and the whole thing opens up in front of you: towering white limestone cliffs plunging straight into water so impossibly turquoise it barely looks real. It’s the kind of view that stops you mid-sentence. Sugiton is one of those places that makes you feel genuinely small in the best possible way. The scale of it, the silence, the color of the water — nothing prepares you for how dramatic it actually is in person. Photos do not do it justice. I promise you that. One of the most breathtaking things I’ve seen in all of southern France. If you have one afternoon in Marseille and you’re in decent enough shape to hike, this is how you spend it.🥺🥺🥺
