What reviewers say

Visitors praise the Sozo Hotel for its unique atmosphere, often noting its transformation from a historical chapel, friendly and helpful staff, and excellent breakfast. However, a recurring complaint is the very limited and often unavailable parking, leading to unexpected costs, and some guests found the rooms to be small.

About this place Sozo Hotel

The Sozo Hotel is one of the most striking hotel conversions in France: a 19th-century neoclassical chapel transformed into a 24-room boutique hotel with sky-high vaulted ceilings, original stained glass windows, and contemporary Scandinavian-influenced interior design. The hotel is consistently recommended by LGBTQ+ travellers and travel media for its welcoming atmosphere and genuinely inclusive service culture. It sits in the Hauts-Pavés neighbourhood, a 15-minute walk from the Bouffay gay quarter and 10 minutes from the Machines de l'Île on the Île de Nantes. A bicycle loan is available for guests, ideal for exploring the city. Rooms from approximately €120–200/night. A genuinely special address.

A former church converted into a hotel. Modern, yet retaining its historical charm. The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, always ready to help and anticipate your every need. The breakfast is superb; there's truly nothing missing. We arrived with our bicycles, and they were safely stored. A huge thank you for that! Definitely 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The hotel is a striking place, with over 20 rooms built into the bones of an old church. It's a fantastic space. However, they have just four parking spaces for guests, and the neighborhood has a sort of 'wrong side of the tracks' vibe. So best to ask after the parking when you book! The rooms are small. Like really small. Few outlets to use. And the menu for food at the hotel is microwaved pre-made meals. That's unfortunate because of the lack of easy to get to restaurants nearby. The location is otherwise good, in walking distance to the old city center of Nantes. We spent one night there, and since the parking was bad and the room was so tiny, we decamped to another hotel further west. Much better! Had we been in our 30s with an overnight bag, this would have worked. On a marathon Europe trip with lots of bags, not so much.

The check-in was quick, and we were able to leave our luggage while we went to get something to eat. The hotel's decor and style are incredible, the room is very well laid out, well soundproofed, the temperature is perfect, the shower is separate from the toilet, the bedding is very comfortable, and there's no overlooking from the windows. The setting was perfect for a short stay. The hotel is located right next to the Jardin des Plantes (which is nice to visit) and just a few minutes from Nantes train station, which is very convenient.

A sumptuous hotel with superb rooms. The staff is incredibly attentive and very pleasant. The relaxation area (spa, hammam, etc.) offers a wonderful opportunity to recharge. The breakfast is of exceptional quality, featuring only local products. It's truly perfect.
