Les Mots à la Bouche

Les Mots à la Bouche (literally "Words in the Mouth") is France's most significant LGBTQ+ bookstore — a genuinely comprehensive literary and cultural destination that stocks French and international queer literature, theory, biography, art books, magazines, and gift items. It was located in its historic spot at 6 Rue Sainte-Croix de la Bretonnerie in the heart of the gay Marais for decades before rising rents forced a move to Rue Saint-Ambroise in the 11th arrondissement in 2019. The relocation disappointed some locals but did not diminish the quality or breadth of the stock. The short Metro journey (Lines 3 or 9, Saint-Ambroise station) from Le Marais is worth making for anyone seriously interested in LGBTQ+ literature. Open daily from 10:30am to 7:30pm.
