About this place Sonntags-Club

Sonntags-Club, on Greifenhagener Straße, isn't just another Berlin bar. It started as an underground meeting spot for gay and lesbian people when the city was divided. Now, it's a café, bar, and cultural space all in one, still a central spot for queer Berlin. The place feels comfortable but purposeful. You can grab a drink, sure, but Sonntags-Club also puts on art shows, film nights, comedy, and open mics. It’s a hub for creative types and a place to just hang out. They also act as an information and advice center for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people, which means the staff gets what LGBTQ+ travelers and locals need. If you’re in Berlin and want a place with real history and community ties, this is it. It’s not your average nightlife spot. You’ll find regulars who’ve been coming for years alongside new visitors, all sharing drinks, art, and conversation. Whether you want a quiet coffee, a night out, or a show, Sonntags-Club keeps the spirit alive that began in its underground days. Check their website for what’s on and when they’re open.

The place, like some other so-called queer meeting places, has the problem that it's not a safe space for trans women. All the support groups and such are now dominated by cis people or non-binary AFABs. As a trans woman, you're just stared at. No thanks.

I've had several negative experiences at the Sunday Club. In my opinion, new participants are barely welcomed or introduced, which quickly makes you feel lost. In a self-help group, I also experienced a lack of empathy, which didn't live up to the expectations of a safe and supportive environment. The leader's response afterward also seemed rather distant and unsympathetic. I believe the club has potential, especially if more emphasis is placed on integrating new participants and adopting a more sensitive approach.
