via Stay22About this place Café-Restaurant im Literaturhaus
Café-Restaurant im Literaturhaus, one of Berlin’s four literature houses, occupies a 19th-century building that’s been beautifully kept up. It’s elegant but relaxed, a good combination.
Open since 1985, the place serves food and hosts cultural events. You can come for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, or just stop in for coffee or a late drink. They’re open a long time, so it’s easy to fit in.
The café manages to feel sophisticated without being stuffy. The modern European food won't empty your wallet, so it works for a quick bite or a longer meal. Inside, the design nods to the building’s history, making it feel classic and comfortable. When it’s warm out, the garden seating is the place to be, a nice escape in the middle of the city.
But it's not just about food and drinks. Literature and culture are really the point here. They put on literary events all the time, which makes sense for a place like this. If you want a meal, a quiet spot to read, or an evening out that connects you to Berlin’s brainier side, this is it. It’s also very welcoming to LGBTQ+ travelers looking for something different from the usual bars. Think of it as a spot where you can settle in and feel like a local.

Coffee and cake in the garden in the sunshine is a true delight!
Excellent atmosphere, although they didn't bring me everything I ordered.
A very high-quality restaurant, something like this is unfortunately not often found anymore
The food was pretty tasty, the coffee was ok. I felt that the staff was a bit disorganized, and that our waiter was curt and a little rude, on asking about not having nuts in the pancakes he responded that he couldn't just say and would have to check, a bit snappy, and he would be quick to just turn around and walk away. It also felt a little condescending. I personally won't be coming back
A very delicious ice cream sundae with fresh fruit
