Blue Angel

Blue Angel on Brönnerstraße is one of Frankfurt's oldest lesbian bars and one of the few remaining dedicated lesbian and queer women's venues in any German city of this size. The bar has been a community institution through four decades of changes in Frankfurt's social landscape and has maintained its primarily lesbian identity while welcoming the broader queer community on most nights. Regular live music events — folk, singer-songwriter, indie — distinguish it from the DJ-focused gay bar format and reflect the bar's feminist and alternative cultural roots. Community events including women's networks, political discussions and benefit nights are part of the regular programming. Frankfurt's lesbian scene is smaller and less visible than Berlin's or Hamburg's, which makes Blue Angel all the more important as a fixed reference point. The city centre location is convenient for visitors.
