The 'Technological Veil'. Remarks on an Image of Language in Adorno (AI Series)
About the event
In his lecture, Christian Voller deals with Adorno's concept of the technological veil. In his lecture "Introduction to Sociology," Adorno formulated the following:
"The appearance should be summarized by the formula that everything that exists socially today is so completely mediated within itself that the moment of mediation is obscured by its totality. No position outside the machinery can be occupied from which the spook called by name could be named; the lever can only be applied to its own dissonance. Horkheimer and I meant this decades ago with the concept of the technological veil. The false identity between the organization of the world and its inhabitants through the total expansion of technology amounts to the confirmation of the relations of production, the beneficiaries of which are now sought almost as vainly as the proletarians have become invisible."
(Theodor W. Adorno, 1968)
