Public Tour of the Leipzig Memorial for Forced Labor

In Leipzig-Schönefeld, the Hugo-Schneider-Aktiengesellschaft (HASAG), one of the largest armaments manufacturers and beneficiaries of the Nazi forced labor system, had its headquarters. Here, approximately 10,000 people, primarily from Poland and the Soviet Union, had to produce Panzerfausts, ammunition, and other armaments.

Since 2001, a memorial with a permanent exhibition has existed on the site in Permoserstraße (now the Center for Environmental Research) to commemorate the former forced laborers.

The tour begins with an introduction to the topic of forced labor during National Socialism, with a focus on Leipzig and its surroundings. An overview will be provided of the company's history and the Nazi crimes of HASAG, the working and living conditions of the forced laborers, and how Nazi forced labor was dealt with after 1945. After a short tour of the grounds to see traces of HASAG, there will be time for the exhibition and discussions.
