Photo Exhibition — �The Cat Is Called Filja. Ukrainian Internally Displaced Persons Tell Their Stories

The war in Ukraine is disappearing from the news. The far too sparse reporting focuses on front lines, high-level political meetings, on money and weapons. Far too rarely does it concern those who suffer within the country under Russian aggression, who have lost their homes and all too often their loved ones. They endure the inhuman.

In a project running since 2022 in Odessa, the civil society organization Mission Lifeline supports these people. They are destitute, mostly very ill and elderly. In these years, well over 7,000 times a doorbell has been rung and a lifeline box has been delivered to someone – with food, hygiene products, and above all with human warmth.

We want to show all of this in a unique photo exhibition.

The people in the photos have given us insight into their lives. They all want us not to turn away from their fate and the fate of Ukraine, that we do not forget them. The photos in the exhibition show the people where they live now. They come from all over eastern Ukraine, from Kharkiv to Donetsk and Mariupol to Kherson.

When war, loss of home, illness, loneliness, and poverty come together, the world becomes a very, very cold place. Each and every one of us can bring a little light and warmth into this world. Anyone who sees these photos will surely be moved by them. It is called: humanity.
