Conversation: What Remains. Families Remember Nazi Forced Labor

What traces has the history of Nazi forced labor left in the families of the descendants – and how does memory change across generations?

Four relatives of former forced laborers from different countries and generations speak about their family histories. Their ancestors were deported to Leipzig for forced labor during the Nazi era and had to work for the HASAG armaments group and other companies. The descendants talk about what knowledge they grew up with, what was remembered or kept silent in their families, and how the experiences of their ancestors continue to shape their own lives to this day.

The forum offers personal insights into different memory cultures and invites discussion about the transmission of history, responsibility, and the significance of memory for the present.

The event is part of the 25th anniversary of the Leipzig Memorial for Forced Labor. Afterwards, there will be an opportunity for informal exchange with music and drinks.
