... despite everything, a positive, encouraging film that can inspire young women around the world

Documentary film by SIGRID KLAUSMANN and LINA LUZYTE; D 2025, 90 min; FSK 12
German Film and Media Assessment: Particularly valuable rating

What does it mean to be a girl in today's world? This documentary is about the longing of girls from six countries for a self-determined life in freedom, their desire to fall in love without being patronized, without power over their bodies, with equal rights.

They are 14 – 16 years old and fight against the circumstances, expectations, and obstacles in their country, their personal environment. Nancy fled female genital mutilation in Tanzania and lives in a shelter. Selena in Santiago de Chile was born in a boy's body and has known since she was four that she is a girl. Sheelan is a Yazidi girl who fled with her mother from northern Iraq from genocide and now lives in Tübingen. In England, 16-year-old Paige decided against an abortion. Nina was deported with her family from Germany to Serbia as a Roma... and Sinai refuses cosmetic surgery in South Korea and trains for the BMX World Championship. What they all wish for most: the chance for a self-determined, free life.
