Historical Tour of the Grounds of the Former Municipal Workhouse
About the event
The tour provides information about the almost 130-year history of the Riebeckstraße 63 site in Leipzig, which is primarily characterized by the exclusion, confinement, and disciplining of social outsiders.
As early as the German Empire, the city of Leipzig opened the "Zwangsarbeitsanstalt zu St. Georg" (Forced Labor Institution of St. George) in 1892. For over a hundred years and across the political systems of the 20th century, the Riebeckstraße 63 area was the scene of various forms of persecution and oppression. These will be made visible during our tour of the grounds.
The event will be fully translated into German Sign Language.
The tour is organized in cooperation with Weiterdenken – Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung Sachsen.
