Historical Tour of the Former Leipzig Municipal Workhouse Grounds

Saturday, 31 October 2026 · 11:00 – 12:30 planlos-leipzig.org, Leipzig, Germany

About the event

In a public, free tour, the initiative group Riebeckstraße 63 provides information about the past and present of the former Leipzig Municipal Workhouse grounds.

The tour explains the almost 130-year history of the Riebeckstraße 63 complex, which is primarily characterized by the exclusion, containment, and disciplining of social outsiders.

As early as the German Empire, the city of Leipzig opened the "St. Georg Forced Labor Institution" in 1892. For over a hundred years and across the political systems of the 20th century, the Riebeckstraße 63 area was the scene of various forms of persecution and oppression. These will be made visible during our tour of the grounds.

We look forward to discussing the history of the area and possible contemporary connections with you afterwards.

Participation is possible without prior registration and is free of charge.
