Tacheles: Eyewitness Talk Renate Aris
About the event
Wednesday, September 9, 2026. Tacheles: Eyewitness Talk Renate Aris. Halle D | Doors open: 6:00 PM, Start: 7:00 PM. Renate Aris was born in Dresden in 1935 and is one of the last surviving Jewish eyewitnesses of the Shoah in Saxony. As a child, she experienced Nazi persecution; in February 1945, her family narrowly escaped planned deportation and also survived the bombing of Dresden. Twenty members of her family were murdered in the Shoah. For decades, Renate Aris has been committed to Jewish life, remembrance culture, and societal education. For many years, she was the deputy chairwoman of the Jewish Community of Chemnitz and a board member of the Saxon State Association of Jewish Communities. As an eyewitness, she has spoken to over 600 school classes, conveying her story especially to young people. For her extraordinary commitment, she has received, among other awards, the Saxon Order of Merit and, in 2026, the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon. Admission is by donation. This event is co-financed by tax funds based on the budget approved by the Saxon State Parliament. https://www.werk-2.de/programm/2026-09-09_tacheles_zeitzeuginnen_gespraech_renate_aris https://www.planlos-leipzig.
