MEMORIAL EVENT for
Dr. phil. EVA LEHMANN-LILIENTHAL
An event in cooperation with GEDOK Mitteldeutschland and Frauenkultur Leipzig

In May 2026, the versatile author Eva Lehmann-Lilienthal died: she would have celebrated her 95th birthday in August. Born to a Jewish mother, she was one of the few Jewish survivors of the Holocaust of Hitler fascism in Leipzig.

She studied philosophy with Ernst Bloch – and dealt with political-economic and philosophical-artistic questions until the end of her life. She repeatedly expressed her own opinions... which brought her some professional disadvantages. But the mother of two children was and remained controversial.

In 1989, she saw it as an opportunity to open up new intellectual and social worlds; worked on the emerging new all-German constitution, which was presented in the Paulskirche in Frankfurt in June 1990 – but ultimately not adopted by the Bundestag. In 1992, she was a co-founder of the Ephraim-Carlebach-Stiftung Leipzig. She found her calling in writing and engaging with literature; published essays, glosses, and poems; worked with, among others, "Autorinnen Mitteldeutschland," which met for several years at Frauenkultur Leipzig.
