Grand Jules Boat Hotel

It could use a renovation!

It needs renovation; the rooms are very small and in need of refurbishment. Everything smells old and strongly of chlorine. It's located under the Margaret Bridge, and you can hear every tram. The only positive aspects are that you can easily reach many places on foot and by public transport, and you have a very good view of the Parliament building.

We had a really great 3-night stay at this boat hotel in Budapest and enjoyed everything very much. Staying on a boat was such a nice and different experience, and our kids absolutely loved it. It made the whole trip even more special for our family. The location was great, the food was very good, and everything was clean and comfortable. The staff were also very kind and helpful during our whole stay. We especially want to say thank you for the last day. We told the hotel only at the last minute that we had to leave very early in the morning, and they still prepared food packages for us to take on the journey. We really appreciated that. Thank you for a lovely stay — we would happily come back again!

Small rooms, very clean, very nice view, nice experience, nice breakfast

Sadly the first room that we were allocated was up a very steep flight of stairs, tricky with a walking stick, no lifts. The room was tiny, barely five inches between the bed and wall, no bedside tables, crack in the ceiling, very little hanging space. Thankfully we were told that a downstairs room would be available on the next day, so we didn't unpack. After a meagre breakfast, there was ample bread and pastry selection, ham and cheese, but the hot selection was always an odd looking scrambled egg, mini frankfurters and cold veg, always the same no change. We were shown the new room, which was 100% better. My impression is that they've upgraded downstairs, but not upstairs. The aircon couldn't be changed to cool, so everyone had to have the same, either warm air in the winter and cooler in the summer. No tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms, but after 3 days we were given a kettle. The bathroom was tiny,but I suppose to be expected on a boat. After a couple of nights I requested a mattress topper, but not available, but they let me have two extra duvets to put underneath the bottom sheet. The staff were friendly and helpful, so we made the best of it.

The best hotel in Budapest. The only downside is the parking, but it's excellent geographically. Clean room, excellent breakfast. We stayed for two nights. We will definitely be back.
