About this place Roma Pride Route — Piazza della Repubblica

Roma Pride is Italy's largest LGBTQ+ demonstration. The annual parade starts at Piazza della Repubblica — the semicircular civic plaza at the eastern edge of Termini station — and runs the ceremonial 2.5 km route via Via Nazionale and Piazza Venezia to Piazza San Giovanni in Laterano. Roma Pride draws roughly 500,000 attendees per year; the 2024 edition was estimated at 750,000. Roma Pride is organised by the Circolo Mario Mieli (see separate entry). Its history has two phases: smaller marches ran annually from 1994 to 1999, drawing 3,000-15,000; the 2000 Roma Pride — coinciding with the Vatican's Jubilee year and staged in explicit political opposition to the Vatican's condemnation of homosexuality — drew 200,000 and set the current scale. The route is politically loaded. It passes the Palazzo del Quirinale (the President's residence), the Vatican-adjacent Piazza Venezia, and finishes at the mother church of Rome's Roman Catholic hierarchy — the Basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano. That choice of route puts the parade in direct dialogue with the Catholic Church's civil position on Italian LGBTQ+ rights, and the Church's objections to the parade route have been a recurring feature since 2000. The route is free, walkable year-round as public street. Parade day is typically the second Saturday of June; the road closes 10:00-20:00. Best experienced on parade day; on non-parade days the route is a substantial Rome sightseeing walk covering some of the city's most historic squares. Roma Termini is directly at the parade's starting point.

Excellent hotel near the station. Attentive, professional, and very friendly staff. I had a small issue with my room, which was resolved promptly. The room was clean and comfortable. Excellent breakfast with a wide variety of sweet and savory options (the maritozzi with cream were exceptional!).
