Gay Bars & Clubs in Riga
Riga isn't Berlin, but Latvia's capital has a small, welcoming queer scene that's easy to navigate in a weekend. Most of the dedicated venues sit in the Centrs district, a short walk from the Central Station, so you can move between them on foot.
Riga's Queer Venues

Skapis — By Queers For Queers
Skapis is Riga's main dedicated queer bar and cultural venue, on Aristīda Briāna iela in the Centrs district. Occupying the space of the former legendary club Piens, it reopened and rebranded as "By Queers For Queers" in 2026 and remains the heart of the local LGBTQ+ scene. Expect drag shows, queer parties, karaoke and DJ nights of pop and electronic music, plus community events and screenings tied to the 2ANNAS International Queer Film Festival.
TOP Club — The Gay Nightclub
TOP Club is Riga's dedicated LGBTQ+ nightclub, on Alfrēda Kalniņa iela near the Central Station. Describing itself as the city's only club "for all open-minded people," it spreads across several rooms — a main bar, dance floor, lounge and cruising and art zones — with drag, shows and a Wednesday karaoke night, open six nights a week.
Bunker — Men's Cruising Bar
Next door and under the same ownership, Bunker is a gay men's cruising bar with a bar, video room, showers, dark rooms and cruising areas. It's an adults-only venue open daily from late afternoon into the early hours, with later closing on Friday and Saturday.
Aleponija — Alternative & Friendly
Aleponija is an unpretentious alternative bar on Ernesta Birznieka-Upīša iela, known for live concerts, poetry readings, cheap drinks and a resident bar cat. It periodically hosts drag shows and queer book presentations and appears on local LGBTQ+-friendly venue lists — a welcoming mixed spot rather than a dedicated gay bar.
Best Nights & What to Expect
Friday and Saturday are the liveliest nights, when Skapis and TOP Club fill up. Weeknights are quieter and better for a relaxed drink, though TOP Club's Wednesday karaoke draws a crowd. The scene is close-knit and friendly, mixing locals and visitors, and English is widely understood.
Practical Tips
Getting There:
The main venues cluster in Centrs near the Central Station, walkable if you're staying centrally. Riga also has trams, trolleybuses and buses, and ride-sharing apps like Bolt are cheap and reliable late at night.
Ages:
The legal drinking age in Latvia is 18, and venues enforce it, so carry a valid ID. The crowd skews 20s to 40s.
Safety:
Riga is generally safe and its queer venues are welcoming. Take standard precautions — watch your drinks and belongings, and be aware of your surroundings when walking alone late at night.
