Beginner Course + Practica
About the event
Beginner course in queer tango! In Oslo Tango Queer, we break away from the traditional heteronormative gender roles in Argentine tango. This means that everyone dances with everyone, regardless of gender, and that we take turns leading and following. We think this makes the dance more playful and exciting! If you are curious about tango or have only danced a little, you are welcome to join our five-week beginner course! When: Wednesday 26.08.26 17:00-18:30 Wednesday 02.09.26 17:00-18:30 Wednesday 09.09.26 17:00-18:30 Wednesday 16.09.26 17:00-18:30 Wednesday 23.09.26 17:00-18:30 After the course, we continue with a practica open to all, until 19:30. What: For those who want to, but haven't tried tango before, or if you have danced a little, you will learn techniques for following and leading steps, as well as finding the dance together in tango. If you have a preference for following or leading, you will learn a bit of both, which strengthens your insight as a dancer. During these course evenings, we will cover core techniques for axis, communication, three directions, and pivot/turns. We will go into ochos, crosses, and giros. We change dance partners during the session without regard to gender or 'roles'. You don't need to come as a couple or 'be a good dancer'. Who: Karine Hilde-Hoel has danced tango since 2015 and is a board member of Oslo Tango Queer. During Pride this year, she held an introductory course in queer tango at Pride House, and in continuation of that, she is now holding a 5-week beginner course. Practical: Where: FRI, Mariboes gate 13, 1.
