Príncipe Real has become one of Lisbon's more interesting shopping areas. It's got design shops, independent boutiques, antique dealers, and a few LGBTQ-specific retailers. It's not a shopping mecca like parts of Berlin or London, but there's enough here to make a wander worthwhile.
What you'll find in Príncipe Real
Over the last decade, a wave of independent shops have opened next to the bars here. Design and lifestyle stores now sit alongside older antique shops and traditional Portuguese businesses that have been around for years. A few shops sell LGBTQ-oriented goods, from pride merchandise to adult items. They're a smaller part of the retail scene than in cities with bigger gay commercial districts, but they exist.
Lisbon's built a name as a design and fashion destination, and Príncipe Real is a key part of that. If you like Portuguese ceramics, independent fashion, or design objects, this neighborhood has some of the city's best shops for them.
The wider picture
Like in most European cities, dedicated gay retail has shrunk as shopping moved online. Adult shops and pride merchandise stores are still here, but there are fewer than in the early 2000s. What's grown is the broader independent retail scene, which tends to be welcoming without being specifically gay-branded.
The Saturday market in the Príncipe Real garden runs mornings. You'll find crafts, vintage clothing, and local produce. Worth a look if you're around on a weekend.
The shops
- Cru Store — Cru store sells gay erotic items: men’s underwear, jockstraps, fetish-gear, and sex toys.
- Mr Woof Store — Fetish gear and clothes from G-Shock, Fred Perry, and Boxer.
- Oh My Cock — OMC (Oh My Cock!) is an online shop for sex toys, chosen by and for gay men. They carry fragrances, lube, sex toys, harnesses, clothing, and cock rings.
- Ultra Gay Clothing — This shop near Se Cathedral in Lisbon sells clothes, t-shirts, and perfumes.
- UP! TOWN LISBOA — A multibrand store for gay customers with swimwear, sportswear, underwear, and more.
Practical notes
