About This Event
The Parada ponosa in Ljubljana is Slovenia's Pride. It is older than most in the region: the first march, in 2001, came after gay men were refused entry to a café in the city centre. The Društvo Parada ponosa (Pride Parade Association) organises it as a festival of about a week, with talks, films, exhibitions and parties, ending in the march.
The march has faced real opposition. In June 2009, days before the parade, masked men attacked Café Open, a gay-friendly bar, and burned activist Mitja Blažič with a torch. The 2026 coverage we read reported no incidents, though Student.si noted that part of the public still sees no need for the march.
The parade takes place in the evening. In 2026 marchers gathered from 18:00 at AKC Metelkova mesto, the former army barracks that has been the city's alternative and queer hub since the 1990s. They set off at 19:00 along Masarykova and Slovenska cesta and finished with a stage programme on Kongresni trg. During the day, LGBTIQ+ and allied organisations ran a fair in Park Zvezda. Everything is free. Metelkova's queer clubs, Tiffany and Monokel, are the obvious places to continue the night.
Ljubljana is small and mid-June is high season, so book rooms early.
The 2026 festival ran from 5 to 13 June under the slogan 'Demokracija v naših rokah – upanje je naš upor' (Democracy in our hands – hope is our resistance), with the parade on Saturday 13 June. Mayor Zoran Janković took part in the closing programme on Kongresni trg, and President Nataša Pirc Musar sent a video address. 24ur reported several thousand marchers, but we couldn't find a precise count. The 2027 dates hadn't been announced when we checked.
