About this place Club Metropolitan

Club Metropolitan's Balmes location (215 Carrer de Balmes) is the Barcelona gym that consistently gets name-checked in gay travel guides. Sure, the chain has other spots around town, but this one's got the right crowd, the equipment you actually want to use, and an atmosphere that makes it worth seeking out. The gym floor is big. You'll find all the current cardio and strength machines you’d expect. Group classes hit the usual suspects: Pilates, spinning, yoga, aerobics. And the indoor pool is a real draw — long enough to actually swim laps, and it’s kept clean. A Turkish bath, Jacuzzi, and sauna round out the spa area. But what really sets it apart? The rooftop sun deck. In Barcelona’s climate, that’s a major perk from spring well into late autumn. Doors open at 7:30 a.m. on weekdays, so you can get a full workout in before most of the city even stirs.

Used to be a good gym but they clearly lowered the level, please don’t join it’s not worth it. Towels are dirty, showers are dirty, always a queue for equipment because they have no limit of people joining and things are always broken (steam room/sauna/water fountains). One day the water wasn’t working at all and they even made me pay for a bottle of water.

Excellent facilities, quality equipment, and a mature and respectful environment. In just three months at the center, I've been able to sustainably achieve my goals. I especially want to highlight Max's work as my personal trainer, for his motivating and dynamic workouts and for helping me improve my fitness. I also want to mention Valeria from the nutrition department; her support, advice, and follow-up have been fundamental in helping me improve my habits and adopt a much healthier mindset. I also want to mention the rest of the team, who are always friendly, professional, and willing to help. Exceptional service!

It was a premium gym with excellent staff and a good balance of space and people, but from 2020 onwards, everything went downhill. The mostly Filipino staff gradually disappeared, and I still don't know why. The renovations to expand the capacity left half of the spa out of service for over a year. They removed the Turkish bath in the men's locker room, eliminated a room while doubling the number of lockers, and reduced the solarium by 50% by taking away the umbrellas from the terrace. They also reduced the usable space in the Turkish bath of the mixed spa. They stopped providing bags for carrying wet swimsuits and eliminated the complimentary restroom in the weight room… etc. It was utter nonsense. All because of a greed for revenue that killed the goose that laid the golden eggs. They raised everyone's membership fee from €65 to €120 in three years without any improvements to justify it—far exceeding the rate of economic growth. All of this generated a growing, day-by-day discontent among members and staff who couldn't address complaints and suggestions due to a management (I saw four directors come and go; a thought for Silvia, who passed away, may she rest in peace ❤️) incapable of handling it. A gym that, unfortunately, leaves a void of class in Barcelona. Now it's occupied by expats who, like in housing, pay blindly for a sham. A real shame. Because gyms like this are already commonplace, and there are many more in the city. Only CNB remains. Regards, and thanks for reading.

Lost 2 facial washes and swim shorts came after to ask about it always not there. For an expensive gym I would like to feel that the probability to find in the lost and found the day after higher than 0/3.
