About this place La Raya / Charco de la Pava (Isla de la Cartuja)

La Raya is the local name for the riverside car parks and scrubland on the Isla de la Cartuja, on the west bank of the Guadalquivir behind the Estadio Olímpico Cercanías station and the ground used by the Charco de la Pava flea market. Spanish LGBTQ+ press has described the area as the best-known outdoor cruising zone for gay men in Seville, and Togayther's Seville cruising guide, updated in March 2026, still lists it as active. It is a car-based scene. People arrive by car, motorbike or bicycle, park facing the river and walk the unlit paths along the bank. The busiest moments are Sunday afternoons and Saturday nights. On Sunday mornings the Charco de la Pava market fills the site with stalls and shoppers and the atmosphere changes completely; there is no cruising then. Further upriver, towards the Isla de Tercia, is a quieter and more remote stretch reached only by vehicle, where informal Sunday meet-ups are reported; it is not lit and not patrolled. Practical notes: there is no public transport at night (the Cercanías stop at Estadio Olímpico serves event days only), and no taxi rank, so plan the return before you go. Local press has in the past reported thefts and attacks here; the documented risk is theft of phones and wallets, not violence, so carry little, keep the phone pocketed and stay within sight of other people. Cruising is not a crime in Spain, but municipal ordinances allow fines for sexual activity in public, and the area is also used by cyclists, anglers and walkers by day. Keep it discreet and away from anyone who is not participating.
