We visited Ellery Beach House on Lidingö during the midsummer weekend and unfortunately the stay was a big disappointment. We arrived around 4:30 pm. My wife has problems with her knees and we tried to find out if there was a lift, but no staff could answer the question. At dinner around 5:30 pm we were met with a long queue. Considering that the hotel knows when the guests arrive, it feels strange not to have enough staff on site. Once we got a table, we were informed that we could order freely from the menu. After about 30 minutes the starter arrived. My mussels were among the worst I have ever had in a restaurant. Then we waited over an hour for the main course. The staff apologized and said the food would come within five minutes, but it took significantly longer. When the food did arrive, both my beef fillet and my wife's chicken were cold and tasteless. The dessert was no better. I asked to exchange my chocolate mousse for a cheesecake, but after several misunderstandings and long waits, it never arrived. In the meantime, the coffee had time to cool. Finally, the staff came with an extra bill of about 600 kronor and explained that some dishes were not included in our package. No one had informed us of this before. On the contrary, we had been told that we could order freely from the menu. The stay was a gift for my wife that our friends had paid about 5,000 kronor for. To then also have to pay extra for a dinner of low quality and very poor service did not feel reasonable. The pool area was overcrowded and the next morning breakfast was so cramped and chaotic that we chose to skip it and go home instead. In summary, we experienced: • Very long wait times • Cold and mediocre food • Inexperienced and confused service • Lack of information about additional costs • Overcrowded common areas • Stressful and chaotic breakfast For the price level Ellery charges, you would expect much better service, organization and quality. Unfortunately, the experience did not live up to expectations at all and we will not be returning.
