About the event

How to break free from assigned stereotypes? In Acting Fantasma, artist and performer Samir Laghouati-Rashwan uses video games as a starting point. Three avatars emerge to explore how identities are constructed, negotiated, and replayed under the influence of social representations. The project questions the injunctions placed on BIPOC men, who are often assigned contradictory figures: strength or nonchalance, impassivity or availability, mastery or mockery. Between these poles, bodies become spaces where expectations, projections, and stereotypes are deposited. The choreographic and textual writing focuses on this point where race and gender crystallize, revealing the mechanisms of identity formation and performativity. The research also draws on viral dances disseminated on TikTok, considered as archives of contemporary gestures. These choreographic forms bear witness to the circulation of social codes, identification models, and visibility strategies. They make perceptible the ways in which individuals shape their image, expose their bodies, and negotiate the norms that permeate digital and social spaces. Performances on Thursdays at 7:30 PM, Fridays at 9 PM, Saturdays at 8 PM, and Sundays at 5 PM. More info and tickets: arsenic.
