Istanbul Trans Pride Week
About This Event
Istanbul Trans Pride Week, or Trans Onur Haftası, is a series of talks, commemorations, and a march organized by the city's trans activists every June, just before the main Istanbul Pride march. It's been going on since 2010. The Istanbul governor or district governors have banned it, along with the main Pride, for about a decade - but that doesn't stop the march from happening, albeit briefly and at secret locations.
In 2025, the Şişli district governor banned the march and all outdoor events, shutting down Taksim and Şişhane metro stations and the Taksim-Kabataş funicular. Police dispersed crowds gathering in Kadıköy, detaining at least 30 people, according to Medyascope, and as many as 63, per soL. Two people arrested at the 2024 march were later charged with participating in an unauthorized demonstration.
On June 21, 2026, thousands of police officers stood guard in an empty Taksim Square, while activists gathered at a secret location in Fenerbahçe, Kadıköy, to honor murdered trans individuals and read a statement. Police surrounded the group and detained several people, including journalists Yusuf Çelik and Doğa Tekneci.
This is a protest, not a celebration - and it's banned. Anyone who shows up can be detained, regardless of whether they're a local or a foreign visitor. As of our last check, the 2027 dates hadn't been announced.
