About this place CLUB KA

Club KA is İzmir's queer institution, and it has the scar tissue to prove it: the venue on 1471 Sokak in Alsancak has cycled through names — Ka, then Red Raw around 2020, now Club KA again — while remaining, throughout, the city's main LGBTQ dance floor. The "35" in its Instagram handle is İzmir's license plate code, which tells you how much the club identifies with its city. What you get is a proper nightclub: a big dance floor, a stage with drag shows and live performances, a lounge area, and a soundtrack that swings between Turkish pop and European techno. The crowd is the point — gay men, trans women, cross-dressers, admirers and everyone in between, in the gloriously mixed, edgy style Turkish nightlife calls "marjinal." Alsancak is İzmir's most liberal district, and inside these walls the atmosphere is electric and unapologetic; Friday and Saturday after midnight is when it peaks. Nightclub hours apply — things start around eleven and run till five. Come armed with the local knowledge: there's an entrance fee, the toilets are paid, and first-timers regularly report being overcharged — agree prices before ordering bottles, count your change, and carry cash. Outside, the standard Turkish discretion rules apply on the street. None of this dims the essential fact: for queer nightlife on the entire Aegean coast, this is the address, and it has been for a very long time.

It's a fantastic LGBTQ+ friendly place; I've been going there for years. The music, staff, atmosphere, everything is great, especially our manager Bilal, he's amazing 🌈

The neighborhood where this venue is located is extremely dangerous and LGBT-phobic. We were attacked by LGBT+ phobics as we left the venue. Be very careful. Furthermore, the venue is not LGBT+. The presence of transgender sex workers within the venue does not make it LGBT+. The owner of the venue himself stated "that this is not an LGBT+ venue".
