About this place The Village Inn

The Village Inn is at the southern end of Hurst Street and operates as the Gay Village's traditional community pub — the alternative to the larger clubs for those who want conversation, a regular crowd and the kind of bar where staff know your name. It has been a Hurst Street fixture for many years and has the character of a local rather than a destination venue: drag nights on Thursdays, karaoke Sundays, a mid-week quiz. The clientele is predominantly Brummies who live in and around the village, giving it an authentically local character that the more tourist-oriented venues lack.

Please bare in mind that my review is in reflection to my visit during Birmingham Pride 2026. The atmosphere was completely dead due to the fact that the entrance to this venue was not signposted well and most importantly that there was no live entertainment until past midnight. The venue itself is beautifully designed, well cooled with aircon and has fantastic bathroom facilities and wifi. The venue is too loud to competently order drinks. The bar staff seem disinterested at times, probably due to lack of patrons? They did however serve affordable and refreshing drinks. I can understand from other people's reviews about how the venue has no character anymore and attracts people out to cause trouble. My partner and I saw this reflected in the overly drunk people in the venue at 6pm throwing themselves around on the dancefloor and giving people funny looks that tried to get past. Dare I say they were the mean gays / drama queens type.

The bouncer / security guards have way too much ego, very very rude indeed. Like chill bro, u don’t own the place. Bar service very slow.

The environment here has become incredibly dangerous and is no longer a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community. There is a constant threat of violence, and security is failing to prevent people from smuggling in concealed weapons and drugs. The atmosphere is hostile and volatile; I strongly advise staying away until management or the authorities address these serious risks.

It would be nothing without lead barman Chris on Saturday nights,, with him 100% the best gay bar in Brum, push the twinks aside and enjoy great music, great drinks, and a great night

I had a very disappointing experience at The Village in Birmingham. Despite having a valid membership card, the security staff repeatedly refused me entry without giving any clear reason. They didn’t even properly check my membership card or ID before denying access, which feels unfair and unprofessional. As a paying member, I expect to be treated with respect and given a valid explanation if entry is refused. This kind of behavior from security staff is unacceptable and reflects poorly on the management. I hope they improve their staff training and treat members more fairly in the future.I feel very disrespectful because of it and I just want to advise everyone that avoid this club.
