Lovely setting Staff supper friendly and helpful food was amazing

Went for a wedding. It's a five star hotel so was expecting five star rating. Rooms were ok but not lush. You get as good in a three or four star. Breakfast was plentiful but cooked food buffet style was cold. Not impressed. Coffee had to be ordered, was cold when it arrived. On the plus side the care taken for the wedding was very good, the food was excellent and the venue for the wedding inside the hotel was just right. There is an outside heated pool which is excellent too

I recently stayed at the Schloss Roxburghe for a wedding. While there is no denying the property is breathtaking—the grounds are lovely and the buildings are truly beautiful—the actual guest experience fell significantly short of its five-star billing. The Value Proposition At a standard rate of £380 per night (we paid a discounted wedding rate of £250), the "wow factor" stopped at the front door. For this price point, you expect seamless service and attention to detail, neither of which were present during our stay. Dietary Requirements: A Major Failure If you have allergies or dietary restrictions, be warned. Despite providing adequate notice regarding being Celiac and Dairy-Free, the hotel was completely unprepared. The Wedding Dinner: My requirements were not met despite the wedding party passing the information on correctly. Breakfast: The options were abysmal. For a GF/DF guest, I was offered only muesli or cornflakes. Therefore I played the safe options of having fruit as even the smoothies did not specify the ingredients used. Lack of Basics: There was no GF bread available. Hot items like sausages and hash browns all contained gluten, and no alternatives were offered. Service & Atmosphere I felt like an inconvenience rather than a guest. When I raised these issues with the receptionist at checkout, the response didn't match the severity of the situation. It is disappointing that a luxury hotel cannot manage basic food safety and inclusivity in 2026 a basic lack of duty of care. Verdict: Go for the photos, but don't expect to be fed or valued if you have any specific requirements. I will be following up with a complaint to the hotel for my disappointing stay.

We had the two bed cottage and it was amazing! Everything was wonderful and so neat. The spa was wonderful too, my highlight was actually the staff. They all deserve a raise. So polite, so kind, so welcoming, so cheerful. The front desk lady at Charlie’s was so warm and pleasant, Even the clay shooting guide was wonderful, my friends and I had such a great time and will be back. Well done to the team.

Great place for a Scottish retreat. Fantastic ambience

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at Schloss Roxburgh in Kelso. The grounds are absolutley fabulous full of beautiful trees and shrubs. When we checked in we were informed that £100.00 would be retained on our card for potential charges which has not been refunded to us as yet. We were booked into a 2 bed cottage which unfortunatley we had to move from because the tv was not working. This was done in a prompt manner. We did ask about having a cottage with a woodburner but were informed that it would be £500.00 extra per night. We declined. We were shown into a 1 bed cottage and were advised that there would be a £40.00 credit per night for this inconvienence. We had reservations in Charlies on the first evening and while the food was good we have had better. You also get hit with a 12.5 % service charge. Also for someone who has severe knee arthritis it is a bit of a walk to get to and there are maybe 5 steepish steps to navigate to get to the restaurant. There is a ramp you can use but it is further to walk to take advantage of. We did ask a staff member if we could park closer to the door but were informed that they would have to ask their boss. We are still waiting for the answer. The cottage was furnished with really nice good quality furnishings however the heating was really noisy and there were no instructions on how to use anything. We were given printed sheets of paper on how to use the oven. The bathroom was really cold as well until we managed to work out how to use the heated floor on the second day we were there. The shower also leaks onto the bathroom floor which is not ideal. It is advertised that the tv's are smart tv's they are chrome cast only and most of the channels are unavailable. Needless to say I dont think that we will return.

The experience was disappointing for several reasons. Firstly, the spa is small, overcrowded, and there was not even a single place to sit. It is the worst spa experience I have ever had in my life, and I have visited quite a few spas. Secondly, we left a £100 deposit. We had to call on three separate occasions, and more than 15 days later, to request its return. The rooms were average. The only positive point worth mentioning was the service from one of the café waiters. However, the fact that a place like this, where you cannot easily go anywhere else, did not have a single dessert available was very disappointing, as was the complete lack of snacks.
