The food is definitely overrated and overpriced

Could not have been better!! We came to the Spence for a bridal lunch earlier this year and everything was 10/10. The staff allowed my bridesmaids to put out surprise decorations before I arrived, and everyone who served us made the day feel so special. Everyone loved the food, drinks and venue. Highly recommend

Good food, but far too expensive. Unfortunately, not good value for money. No lobster, no oysters. Very uncomfortable benches. Wines exorbitantly expensive.

We booked a table for a birthday celebration and were wonderfully looked after by Tony and his team. The food was excellent, the restaurant ambiance is truly mesmerizing, and the service was friendly and attentive throughout the night. I highly recommend the beef tartare, cured duck, and sirloin steak. Thank you again for making our birthday dinner so special!

The atmosphere, ambiance, and service were simply wonderful! We came with a reservation. The waiters were attentive and friendly, the food was delicious, perhaps the portions were a little small, but still filling. After dinner, we had coffee at the bar before leaving. Definitely recommended!

My mum and I have now visited twice for either hot drinks, or wine. Unfortunately, the service has been really poor on both occasions. The first time we visited, the service was so slow they automatically refunded our drinks (we didnt ask or complain... as someone with lots of retail experience, I usually just "accept my fate" instead of putting staff in an awkward position!) which was very kind. This time, all those tables around us who ordered alcoholic drinks had quick service and our pots of tea took ages to arrive. I flagged to a member of staff and our drinks then arrived. But even then, they arrived in coffee pots and with chipped tea strainers. As Edinburgh locals, we really want to enjoy the Spence. Especially given the hot drinks and wine prices are reasonable, and the setting is elegant. But sadly the service slow service isnt worth it and we probably wont be back.
