Duke William Hotel
Visitors frequently praise the Duke William Hotel's excellent central location, comfortable rooms, and the high quality of its food. However, some guests feel the establishment is more of a pub with rooms than a traditional hotel, and a few have noted issues with noise from the bar or restaurant, and cold areas in the pub.

The room arranged by the hotel was very spacious and faced the Water Tower side. It had plenty of natural light, a great view, and was also very quiet. The hotel is in an excellent location, right next to Newport Arch. Breakfast offered a wide variety of choices, with generous portions and great taste. Overall, this was a very comfortable and enjoyable stay in a perfect location. Highly recommended!
Had a 1 night stay for work. Everything was great. I rarely say that. The room was lovely. The staff were clearly well trained. Good cask ales on the bar. Excellent, imaginative menu (one of those where you can't decide because it all sounds delicious). And, it really was delicious. Excellent breakfast too. Credit where it is due. 👍
5 rounds of drinks, exactly the same order each time, yet a different price each time, ranging between £12 and £18+ per couple. Just not good enough on efficiency, consistency nor transparency of prices. Disappointing. Most staff good, yet s9me individuals not friendly, very vocal, and seems like you're an inconvenience to them ( one barmaid in particular). Food ok but overpriced for what's basically minimal fill baguette and chips. We've been many times before but on this occasion it/they didn't stand up to what we'd expect.
Perfect place to eat on a Sunday. I was fortunate enough to have their last Surf and Turf - a delicious rump steak served with king prawns, mushrooms, onion rings and the best fries I have had in a long time. Friendly and efficient staff, serving delicious food in a cozy environment.
This is walk in restaurant as well as a hotel. We visited the Friday before the bank holiday weekend, it was very busy but got a table without booking. At first the system is a bit confusing as it's also a busy pub. It is table service but that's not clear and it can be slow but once ordered the food came quickly. We had the Mediterranean Sharing Platter with Rustic Chips which was excellent value and extremely tasty. Staff were friendly, it's a very laid back atmosphere and believe there is live music later but we didn't stick around for that. My recommendation to owners would be to make system of ordering clearer, some staff don't wear badges so are really difficult to identify. Otherwise was a really nice establishment, great food and good value.
