Transmissions Presents: the Mother (2003)
About the event
From screenwriter Hanif Kureishi (My Beautiful Laundrette),Daniel Craig
stars opposite Anne Reid in a scandalous British drama about a recent
widow who falls into bed with the younger man who just happens to also
be sleeping with her daughter inThe Mother (2003).
Known primarily for her duties as mother and wife, and always putting
others’ lives and wants first, May (Reid) sees the presence of the
scruffy and beguiling Darren (Craig) as an irresistible chance at
passion and pleasure, but her affair threatens to upend her entire
family unit. Named one of the year’s best by none other than John
Waters on release, The Mother (2003) is a portrait of the tug of desire
that calls us to ignore sense and start living.
Find us downstairs at Dalston Superstore for a rarely-screened, deeply
felt melodrama.
