About this place Velvet

Velvet sits at 3 Canal Street, right in Manchester’s LGBTQ+ Village, a stylish hotel that’s been particularly good to gay travelers.

It’s got rooms, sure, but the restaurant’s the real draw, a Canal Street staple that makes staying here a no-brainer. Think good steaks and fresh fish, plus a decent lunch menu and actual vegetarian options. No, really. Desserts are excellent, the kind you stick around for. The place looks a little posh, maybe, but the prices don’t follow suit. You can have a proper dinner here and not feel like you’ve been taken.

Canal Street is the core of Manchester’s LGBTQ+ scene. Stay here and you’re in it. Bars, clubs, the whole social whirl. It’s all just steps away. For comfort and convenience in one of the UK’s best gay neighborhoods, Velvet makes sense. Check their site for details.

Its a great place to stay and the staff have been very friendly and helpful! However, i find the "Breakfast in bed" prices ridiculous. For 10 pounds per person, you get 2 pastries, strawberry yogurt, an apple, and Kellog's cereal! Nothing savory which made me take paracetamol as my stomach could not handle so much sugar at once! This so-called breakfast is not worth the money so they should definitely provide English breakfast instead, especially if you need to travel for a long time skipping lunch afterwards.

The Velvet hotel is a very well furnished place with a gorgeous bathroom. The bed was comfy and the linens felt very fresh. It is noisy, but it’s on Canal Street so that is to be expected. I think ear plugs in the room could be a nice addition but not essential. The illy coffee machine was very tasty and a nice change from usual rubbish hotel coffee. The only couple of pointers are the TV doesn’t load/ work properly. I think it’s because the wifi is overall not good. It probably just needs a booster but we wanted to chill out in the morning and it was a bit of a faff. Nut allergy handling was pretty good, but just needed tightening. I did state I had an allergy but there were still bags of peanuts in our room when we arrived. At breakfast, I was served a nut free selection but they still delivered crunchy nut in for my partner and another pastry which was possibly nut free but we couldn’t tell. I would say 9/10 people with allergies do not want any of that product in the room. Clarification at time of checking in would support this. Overall though we had a lovely stay and thank staff for being so welcoming :)

Great hotel. Well decorated. Comfy beds. Good amenities. Great location. Prosecco on arrival was a nice touch. We were at the back if the hotel and it was quite noisy from the street so maybe ask to be at the front.
