À propos de ce lieu Château Royal Beach Resort & Spa

Château Royal Beach Resort & Spa is a mainstream beachfront resort on Promenade Roger Laroque, the seafront road running through Nouméa's Anse Vata beach district. It is gay-friendly in the general sense, not a gay hotel. The resort has a spa, and the beach and the restaurants along the promenade are a short walk away. Google reviewers rate it 4.3 from around 480 reviews. New Caledonia follows French law, so same-sex marriage is legal and couples should not expect trouble checking in. Nouméa has no dedicated gay bar scene to speak of, which makes a well-placed hotel on the promenade a practical choice.

We had a fantastic stay at Château Royal, and could not recommend it enough! We were picked up by the hotel shuttle service, an additional service that made our stay that much easier, and Pierre our driver kindly gave us really helpful information. The rooms are very spacious, with a kitchenette suitable for preparing meals and snacks. The views were incredible! The staff were all so friendly and spoke perfect English. The pool is really modern, and we loved it - it had a great resort vibe. The beach is also very clean with a large netted area for swimming. The location of the hotel is perfect with lots of cafes, shops, restaurants and bars nearby. The on-site restaurant, Pirogue, is an incredible dining experience, shout-out to Emmanual who was very knowledgable on the wines and food pairing.

The experience remains pleasant, but for a spa of this caliber, several things frankly spoil it. The main problem, by far, is the complete lack of a proper dry relaxation area. It's impossible to simply lie down on a lounge chair, read a few pages, or enjoy a quiet moment between dips in the water. This seems like a basic requirement in a spa. We even mentioned it on our way out, as it's a real drawback. Another disappointment: the whirlpool bath is far too cold. A slightly cooler water circuit is fine, but a whirlpool bath is supposed to be warmer and more relaxing. Here, it's almost the temperature of a regular swimming pool. The lifeguard also left us rather perplexed: in an hour and a half, he spent practically the entire time engrossed in his book, barely looking up except to remind someone who hadn't put on their swim cap. Reading is certainly better than being on your phone, but you still wonder what your role is during that time. Overall, you also get the feeling that some of the equipment is starting to show its age and that a good maintenance and modernization wouldn't hurt. And finally, one more small frustration: as we were leaving, we saw an area with tea and naturally thought we could help ourselves, as is the case in many spas. We were then told that this area was reserved for clients of sports or massage services. In short, it doesn't take much to significantly improve the experience: a proper dry relaxation room, a few lounge chairs, tea or herbal infusions available, and a genuinely hot whirlpool bath. For an establishment like the Château Royal, that seems to me to be the bare minimum expected of a spa.

Lovely resort but would class this more as a 4* than 5* based on service. Requested an iron that the front desk forgot about so needed to call back to remind them and then requested a blanket for my toddler that never came since his cot didn’t come with sufficient bedding. Little things but would expect 5* service to be more diligent. Location is great and rooms are clean/comfortable with good cooking facilities. Unfortunately my son stood on a palm tree spike near the pool so not that good for young kids running around. Value is good if you book directly with the resort. Gym was good as was aquatonic spa.

Beautiful hotel with wonderful staff – a few issues prevented a 5-star rating We had a pleasant stay at Chateau Royal Beach Resort & Spa and overall enjoyed the hotel. The rooms were beautiful, the property was very clean, and the staff were consistently friendly, welcoming and helpful. In particular, Mr. Pierre, Mrs. Aliya and Mr. Ludovic were exceptionally kind and attentive and made us feel very well looked after. We are giving 3 stars rather than 5 because of a few issues that were particularly frustrating. 1. Mattress / prior communication regarding my spine surgery Before our arrival, I contacted the reception in advance to explain that I had undergone spine surgery and specifically asked whether the mattresses were soft. I explained that having a soft mattress was important for me to be able to sleep comfortably and asked whether a soft mattress topper could be provided if the hotel mattresses were not sufficiently soft. I was assured that the mattress would be soft and that, if it was still not comfortable enough for me, a mattress topper could be provided upon arrival. Unfortunately, when we arrived, nothing had been arranged. The mattress was extremely hard. I was subsequently provided with a mattress topper, but unfortunately it was so thin that it was more like a thin summer blanket than an actual mattress topper and made virtually no difference to the firmness of the mattress. Despite having specifically contacted the hotel in advance and explained my situation, I therefore slept very poorly for all three nights of our stay. This was particularly frustrating because it was something we had discussed and confirmed before arrival. 2. Spa / couples massage We are absolute spa lovers and were particularly looking forward to enjoying the spa and having massages during our stay, especially as the hotel presents itself as a beach resort and spa. Unfortunately, on all three days of our stay, we were told that there was only one therapist available. As a result, a couples massage in the same room at the same time was not possible, and we were only offered back-to-back treatments. For a couple staying at a resort with a spa, being unable to have a couples massage together is quite disappointing. Having the treatments back-to-back also means losing a significant amount of time, which is particularly inconvenient during a short stay. We would expect a resort of this standard, which promotes itself as a spa hotel, to have sufficient therapists available to provide simultaneous treatments for couples. 3. Water charges For a five-star hotel, we found the provision of only one 500 ml bottle of water per person per day rather limited. When we requested additional bottles, we were not informed that these would be charged at a very high price. At the end of our three-day stay, we were charged more than AUD 150 for the additional water. We found this extremely surprising and disproportionate, particularly as we had not been made aware of the charges when requesting the extra bottles. At a five-star property, we would have expected either additional complimentary water or, at the very least, clear information about the cost before ordering it. 4. Incorrect charge on our final bill On the day of departure, when checking our room bill, we noticed a charge of 2,600 XPF for a transport shuttle to Port Moselle. We had never taken this shuttle. It took some time to convince reception that the charge was incorrect and that we had not used the service. Apart from these points, we genuinely enjoyed our stay. The hotel is beautiful, the rooms are comfortable and very clean, and the staff are a real asset to the property. With better attention to special requests communicated before arrival, greater spa capacity, clearer information about additional charges, and more careful checking of final bills, this could easily have been a 5-star experience for us.

If I could give this less then 1 star I would. I don’t typically leave bad reviews but I would highly advise against staying at this resort. The food was horrible, restaurant was closed or not serving things on some nights. We even had raw meat at one of the hotel restaurants in which the staff sincerely apologised but said it was typical and due to the menu or something. The room wasn’t cleaned on multiple occasions and our sink clogged. We were refused entry to the spa because they had run out of caps one day and another because they were close to closing and didn’t want to let us in for the last 30 mins. Honestly was shocked at the price, we complained multiple times to reception and nothing changed. Would highly advise against this resort
