The Hotel Nelson

I have stayed this hotel for four nights. The bedbug bite my skin for three weeks until now still itchy and redness.

I very much enjoy this hotel . We were put in the conference wing ( but of a mish to get luggage up stairs with kids in tow . Quite & comfy beds. Full facilities of kitchen. The water was temperamental so becareful with children as it can go hot quickly. Pool is great ! Clean room , just need clean up old tile grout as getting black. Overall stay very good !

Such a disappointment staying at The Hotel Nelson. Entering from the road, you are treated to a modern establishment with a gorgeous reception. That's where the quality ends. We stayed in a double room with kitchen and balcony. Kitchen well stocked with utensils. The room was very dated although the furnishings were contemporary. Carpet was stained but was otherwise clean. Lots of cracking and chipped paint on doors and surfaces. The shower was a combined bath with mould across the seals, although the supplied body soaps and lotions were fantastic. Beds and pillows were comfortable, as was the heating. We had a breakfast at the onsite restaurant and experienced good service but overpriced and ordinary food. If The Hotel Nelson spent just as much on the rooms as they did the exteriors and reception it would be worth the money. This is just 3 stars at best. Good for overnight? Yes. Worth the money? No.

Breakfast comes in 2 forms, buffet and à la carte however you don’t know what you are getting each day. Buffet is help yourself and à la carte is set menu. Note breakfast is limited to $29 per person on the à la carte menu which limits you to your selection.

Good, clean accommodation with very spacious rooms. Some rooms closer to the road can be a little noisy as they’re not double glazed, but overall it’s a comfortable place to stay. The on-site restaurant is great and very convenient. It will definitely remain my go-to for work travel.

Had a evening meal there my friend wasn't to happy with her steak my burger was nice

We were here for 1 night booked by the cycling company and then 2 nights 5 days later that we booked after directly with the hotel . Most of the rooms looked lovely with balconies and little table / chairs outside . The first room we were in was under a cement car park right across from the restaurant where lights shone in all night . We had breakfast at the restaurant and although our eggs and toast where good we never got our coffees ( server still tried to charge us for them ) took forever and we think she was mad that we did not want to have the buffet. Server was on her phone the whole time and when another server started we had to ask her where our eggs were . I asked the desk to give us a different room when we came back with an outside deck and no bright lights . Our next room was the furthest away upstairs in the conference room , very dated , no pictures on the walls , no outside patio, very hot only one small window that opened only a couple inches overlooking the garbage and a semi truck in the alley right outside the window that started both mornings at 3 am . Would not recommend this hotel to anyone .

If there were porters to help lift the luggage to the second floor because there are no elevators in the place, they would receive the highest score in all parameters.

The Hotel Nelson is a good choice to stay when in Nelson. The staff at check in was very friendly and welcoming. The hotel is well located and within a short walk Nelson City centre can be reached. We stayed in the “Studio Kitchen”. The room was very clean and comfortable with two big beds, a separate kitchen with big fridge and a bathroom. The room has air conditioning, which is very comfortable in the hot summer days. Since we stayed in the studio we didn’t use the hotel restaurant. We really enjoyed our stay and would visit again.

Nice and clean. When hair dryer wasn't working they gave us another straight away. Only 2 things I would suggest needs changing. 1. We were right in front where the restaurant was. They had no net curtain so to get privacy had to pull the other curtain which blocked out all the sun. 2. Had 2 cups and 2 glasses. One big cup one small, same with the glasses weird. Would i stay again yes. 🙂

Stayed in room 91 upstairs, got really bad bed bug bites, showed the reception when I was checking out, they didn’t seem too bothered

Some motels in NZ are really hotels, but some hotels are rather motels. That's exactly the case with The Hotel Nelson. It seems it's a bus tour hotel. The lobby was nice but that was the last good thing there. The room was small, dark, and they put the beds across each other which was absolutely weird as we had to navigate between them to get to the door. The bathroom was half-renovated with a jet shower (the jets did not perform due to poor water pressure), old toilet, sink and faucets, and old scratched doors. The location is a few km from the city center, some 5-10 minutes by car. Ample parking.
