Hôtel Canalview Ter Reien

It's incredibly hot in the room and there's no ventilation. The bathroom has no shampoo, shower gel, or hairdryer, just a measly bar of hand soap. As for the receptionist, when we arrived to check in, he didn't bother to help us because he was on the phone and simply pointed to a sign telling us to leave our luggage in the luggage storage. Finally, in addition to the city tax of €4 per person for overnight stays in Bruges, the hotel charges a €5 supplement per person for administering these taxes. A truly awful hotel.

The hotel is very centrally located, but I wouldn't recommend it for the price. The rooms are small, more like a tiny bathroom; clean, but not worth €60 a night.

We stayed one night at Canalview Hotel Ter Reien in Bruges. To start on the positives: the host and the rest of the staff were very friendly and helpful. We were received hospitably and felt welcome during our stay. The service during breakfast was also fine. Additionally, the location is a major plus. The hotel is situated just a few minutes' walk from the historic center, making everything easily accessible on foot. Unfortunately, there are a number of significant downsides for us. We paid €170 for one night, after which we had to pay an additional €18 upon arrival. This was despite the impression given on Booking.com that these costs were already included. Ultimately, we ended up paying €188 for one night. For that amount, we found the room very disappointing. The room was very small and, moreover, did not look finished. There were holes in the walls in several places, and the general condition of the room gave an unkempt impression. Furthermore, the hotel is extremely noisy, meaning you can hear a lot of sound from other guests. During our stay, it was about 28 degrees outside, and the room does not have air conditioning. As a result, it became very warm inside, which made getting a good night's sleep quite difficult. The breakfast was also disappointing. The service was friendly and correct, but the selection was very limited. There were hard rolls, croissants, two types of cold cuts, and boiled eggs. Otherwise, the selection was minimal. Given the price of the stay, we had expected the breakfast to be more extensive. In summary: friendly staff, good service, and an excellent location. However, the value for money is absolutely not right for us. For a much lower price, we would probably have accepted the shortcomings, but for €188 per night, we expect a comfortable, well-maintained room and a more extensive breakfast. Therefore, we would not book this hotel again at this price.

The staff have terrible attitudes

Worst hotel to stay. They fool customers with most weird things. Totally looting people. I have booked the room with an infant (lap infant) and the receptionist person forced me to pay for an extra adult. When I asked that it is an infant of less than 1 year he said that any extra person is chargeable. Agoda website says otherwise. Extremely weird and rude person who threatens me that he will cancel my booking and will not refund my money as well.

This hotel offers excellent value for money. It's clean, quiet, and right in the heart of history. Breakfast was adequate. Bring your own shampoo 😊

A great value-for-money hotel. The location is perfect. The rooms are small but adequate. The bed linens and towels are clean. Breakfast is sufficient.

I'll go through it one step at a time. The hotel is in a very good location. However, when you arrive at reception, the customer service is not good, because initially there's no one there. We waited almost two hours before the receptionist arrived. The rooms: They vary depending on the room you're assigned. Mine was in very bad condition, with stains on the walls and cracks in the ceiling. I think that's unforgivable. The hotel doesn't deserve that; it's in a very good location and is very beautiful. However, I must say that some of the rooms I could see from the hallway while they were making the beds were very nice. Dining room: Breakfast was fine; it had everything I needed and was delicious. I have to highlight that the woman in charge of the kitchen and restocking the dining room was amazing. She was constantly preparing and replenishing the food, always with a pleasant and smiling face towards the guests. Thank you for being like that and taking your job so seriously. That's the kind of person this hotel needs, with that attitude towards your work. Best regards again. From my point of view: When we arrived at reception, we plugged the charger into an outlet right next to the counter, asking permission from the customer service representative, who... Permission was given. Five minutes later, a girl arrived walking a dog, whom we believe to be the owner or a relative of the hotel owners, and she scolded the receptionist because we had our phone charging. This was an unprofessional gesture on her part, because once you have a hotel reservation, you have the right to use the hotel's facilities. I hope this doesn't happen to any other guest, and I sincerely hope that when I travel anywhere in Spain, this kind of thing doesn't happen to me. Constructive complaint: The hotel is beautiful and very well located, but it needs someone to better manage the rooms. I think the room we rented and the hallway where there were other rooms were under renovation, or at least it seemed that way. If they were doing renovations, it's better not to rent them so people don't leave bad reviews about this hotel, because it doesn't deserve them. The photos I'm going to post are from when we arrived at the room, and the bed was supposedly freshly made. Some of the rooms I saw in the hallways were very nice, and They were very beautiful. I will return someday and I hope that the way this lovely hotel is managed has changed.

Spacious and comfortable room, good bathroom

Unfortunately, absolutely disappointing – not recommended. The only positive aspect of this hotel is its location – it's really good. Parking was also available for €22 per day in a nearby parking garage, which was at least convenient. However, everything else was very disappointing. The room was in poor condition: the walls were filthy, and the bathroom seemed unfinished – some of the walls weren't plastered, and there was even a hole in the ceiling. (The light in the bathroom goes out every 20 seconds.) In addition, it was extremely noisy. The street noise was so loud it sounded like the window was permanently open, making a restful sleep virtually impossible. The cleanliness also left much to be desired. The bed linens didn't smell fresh, and there was still trash from the previous guests in the bin. Overall, everything felt very cold and sterile, lacking any decoration or coziness. The service was also disappointing. After I mentioned the problems at reception, the staff reacted very rudely. Instead of understanding or accommodation, there were only references to the fine print. Especially disappointing are the extra charges for basic amenities: heating before sunset costs €15 (completely incomprehensible in a freezing cold room), and a hairdryer also costs €15. Not even a small bottle of water is provided. (Water is available from a vending machine at an outrageous price: €2.50 for 0.25 liters.) Breakfast is also unremarkable, but it couldn't be deselected during booking. Overall, the price-performance ratio is completely unacceptable. I definitely would not recommend this hotel.
