Le Mat Hostel

Beautiful hostel. The employees and the owner are very helpful. At my second stay he helped me out when I suddenly found myself in need of a bed late at night.

The first thing is the location. Second, despite the age of the building and everything, it's clean, and that's important. Third, I checked in at 9 a.m., and they had a room ready, even though I booked it that same day at 8 a.m. This was my first experience with hostels. I took a private room with a double bed. The linens and mattress were excellent. I only stayed for a day. The downside is there's no soundproofing at all. And the kitchen, while clean, doesn't have a coffee machine, for example. Overall, location + cleanliness + staff make all the difference. There's a great sushi restaurant, a beach, and a walking area nearby.

Checked in March 21-24, 2026. Great location, very close to the beach, St. Lazarus Church, and Larnaca Fortress. Convenient for dining and parking nearby. Very quiet during my stay; I checked in myself. The bathroom and toilet were very clean, and hot water was always available. Hair dryers were also available for borrowing outside the bathroom. The beds were on the second floor; the first floor has the lobby and kitchen. The staff were very friendly. My luggage was delayed by Aegean Airlines for 3 days before arriving at the hostel, but thankfully the hostel staff helped me pack it up.

This hostel was by far the best I've ever stayed in! It's located in a kind of Ottoman palace – it feels like a living museum. The beds in the rooms are also wonderful. I slept in a dorm, and the setup was as follows: bunk beds with individual curtains, nightlights, and power outlets. The spacious lockers were under the beds. There are separate shower and toilet facilities for men and women. On the ground floor, you'll find the common room and the kitchen, where you can also find a water filter/dispenser. I've heard some people write that there's no air conditioning, but since I stayed here in winter, I can't complain about that – although it might be a real problem in the summer. Another thing: the mosque next door isn't just clearly audible; from the balcony of the large dorm, you can actually watch the sermon. Prayer usually ends around 6 to 7 pm, so sleep should hardly be disturbed.

Immediately after making the reservation, I learned that my work plans had changed and contacted the property right away to explain the situation. The cancellation request was rejected immediately, without any willingness to understand or assist. After several follow-up messages, the property eventually agreed to compensate one night (50%), but did not explain how this compensation could be applied and redirected me to Booking.com. I contacted Booking.com every day to get instructions, but received no response for several days. Due to this lack of communication and coordination, the property later withdrew their 50% offer. I cannot evaluate the accommodation itself, but I can evaluate the service. The complete lack of communication, responsibility, and support resulted in me paying for a stay I did not use. Based on this experience, I do not recommend this property.

Great value for money for the location, clean rooms and bathrooms. The kitchen was ok and the staff very friendly. Would go again! :)

I’ve been to 32 countries all over the world, and I can easily say that Le Mat Hostel felt more like my private retreat or home rather than a hostel—just amazing! Spacious, relaxing, cozy, and close to everything. If you’re visiting Larnaca or Cyprus, Le Mat is a no-brainer.

Location is great. However insulation is horrible. Sleep quality is zero. Even in private rooms there is space between doors and wall and you can hear everyone coming at 2AM or leaving at 6AM. There is even glass above the doors in the private rooms so the light from the corridors enters the room. This could easily be solved. But the management seems uninterested and in general stuff was not good with giving information on what to do or see. This was super disappointing. Heating is only AC and no heating in the kitchen, common areas and bathroom so it is quite cold in winter months.
