Centralhjørnet is a small gay bar on the corner of Kattesundet in central Copenhagen, a minute from Strøget. It is widely cited as one of the oldest gay bars in the world, with a history traced back to 1917. Inside it is a plain neighbourhood bar: wooden counter, photos on the walls, and a crowd of all ages, from older Danish regulars to visitors who come for the history. It opens daily from 2pm, until 2am during the week and 5am on Friday and Saturday. Prices are low by Copenhagen standards. It is busiest late at weekends; earlier in the day is the time for conversation with the regulars. Several other gay bars are a short walk away.
