Zur Kaiserin

The Kaiserin is a classy gay bar; the clientele and staff are friendly, the atmosphere is pleasant, warm, and respectful, and women are treated kindly even though it's a gay bar. I had a very nice evening there, and have been twice in a row. I'll definitely be adding this bar to my regular nights out list.

Everything was great, the toilet smelled wonderful. We had a fun evening with seven people.

STAY AWAY if you don’t want to be harassed and screamed at by the owner. My female friend and I had the worst experience at this bar. She was ignored at the bar for over 20 minutes, but when I switched places with her, I was served in less than 10 seconds. At first, we thought it was just because it was busy on a Saturday night—but what happened later proved otherwise. At the end of the night, when we were the last customers, my friend wanted to use the bathroom and the man we assumed to be the owner followed her into the bathroom, opened the door on her, and started screaming in her face, spitting as he shouted. None of the staff intervened. Moments later, after kicking her out, he sent another worker to casually say, “The bathroom is free now if you want to use it,” with no apology at all. This was traumatizing and by far the most horrible experience we’ve had in Cologne. It’s not a safe or welcoming place, especially for women, foreigners, or expats. Don’t be fooled by the rainbow colors—this is not a safe space. It is not for all queer people, it is only a space for white gay man apparently. There are many far friendlier pubs in the city that actually accept all people and treat them with respect.

I was there with my partner, and we had a lot of fun. It was a very enjoyable evening. The service was friendly, the atmosphere was great, and the drinks were delicious.

The Empress, a super beautiful bar with the best staff. My favorite place.

Even the toilets are gold-plated. A dream. The gayest Kölsch in town. George Michael was here too. But he didn't have any money and left right away. The service is astronomically good. The music is disco-monal.

A small, cozy gay bar located between the Barcelona and the 4U construction site. Friendly service from everyone. The clientele has aged gracefully alongside the owners, so it's perfect for mature gentlemen or guys who are into "experienced youngsters" :))). Did Klaus have his stage character in mind when he chose the name? Lola forever ;).

Whenever we Frankfurters visit Cologne, stopping by here is always a must. You always feel comfortable and welcome, even if you're not part of the scene. The service is excellent; thanks to Klaus, Thorsten, and their team. See you again soon.

This was our first time at Kaiserin. It's a small, charming pub with a lovely atmosphere. What we didn't like so much was that the music was very, very loud and kept getting a little louder. It was impossible to have a conversation; we had to use handwriting recognition. That's a real shame. The Kölsch at €2.40 was acceptable, though. The staff were friendly.
