Hôtel Domstern

Small but excellent city hotel with very friendly staff and a great breakfast.

I stayed at Hotel Domstern in Cologne and overall had a very good experience. The location is excellent, very close to the Hauptbahnhof and within easy walking distance of the main attractions, including the cathedral. The accommodation was a bit different from what I expected, as I was given an apartment rather than a standard hotel room. It felt unusual at first, but I quickly got used to it and found it quite comfortable and spacious. Breakfast was a highlight. There was a wide variety of options, and you can order freshly prepared omelettes, which are served hot at the table. The only downside is that the breakfast area and reception are located in a different building. It would be helpful if this was communicated more clearly in the reservation confirmation. Overall, it’s a great place to stay with an excellent location and very good breakfast.

The single room was very disappointing. It was small, without even a closet. The window largely overlooked a pillar of the hotel. The bathroom smelled strongly of urine. The breakfast is good and partly served at the table, but those staying at the Domstern have to go to the hotel across the street to eat it. The location is central, but to reach the cathedral and the historic center, you have to cross the train station.

Our room was ready, so we were able to check in before check-in time. I also noticed they take luggage for those whose rooms aren't ready yet. The room size was adequate and just as promised when booking. There's an elevator. The room was clean, and a hairdryer, soap, etc., were available. It's on a quiet street, a few minutes' walk from the central train station. The breakfast was very varied, with vegan options and choices for those with gluten and lactose sensitivities. The staff were friendly and helpful. I would choose this hotel again if I return.

The hotel is very close to Cologne Cathedral. It's within walking distance. The breakfast is very good and filling. The staff are friendly and communicative. I would definitely recommend it.

The location is fantastic; you can walk to the main train station or the cathedral in just a few minutes. The rooms are clean and individually decorated. The room and bathroom were larger than expected. There was an elevator, and the door could be opened with a code (no annoying key/card system). The breakfast was surprisingly extensive, with a wide variety of options, including daily changing egg dishes freshly prepared to order. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, the room was very noisy. You could hear footsteps from the neighbors' door. In the evenings, in bed (when it was very quiet), you could even overhear their conversations. There was no room service. If you needed anything, you had to contact room service. However, on the day of departure, room service knocked at 10:33 a.m., even though check-out wasn't until 11:00 a.m.

Great location, small, chic hotel with parking for €15 – very good. Unfortunately, the bed in room 402 is a bit too small for two people, and there's a slightly strange smell in the room. Otherwise, we'd gladly come back.

The staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating. You quickly feel welcome in a personal and harmonious atmosphere. The breakfast is very varied and offers a wide selection of excellent quality. The hotel is incredibly quiet yet centrally located. All the sights are easily accessible from here. In the lobby, there was a refrigerator stocked with a selection of drinks, which could be purchased at reasonable prices by writing your room number on a list.

The hotel's location is fantastic! It's very close to the city center yet on a quiet street. Everything was spotlessly clean. I was able to adjust the room temperature exactly as I wanted and didn't feel cold at all. Breakfast was even better than I expected; there was a wide variety, and everything was fresh. The staff in the breakfast room were so friendly and energetic, they worked like bees. There's a team here that truly loves what they do. I don't know if I'll come back to Cologne, but if I do, I know exactly where I'll stay now. I wholeheartedly recommend it 💛 I don't understand the negative reviews either. It definitely doesn't deserve the low rating.

Good and quiet location in the immediate vicinity of Cologne's main train station. The breakfast was truly excellent with a wide selection. The friendly staff at reception, in the breakfast room, and in housekeeping deserve special mention. If anyone asks me if I know a good hotel in Cologne, I can now give them an answer.
