Flonk Hotel Groningen Zuid (Anciennement Best Western)

Delicious food, friendly service, beautiful location.

Great location, beautiful view and facilities. Very polite and helpful staff (not regarding cleanliness). Free parking, which we discovered is not at all a given in the area (although it should be at least in 4 star hotels) But with almost 250 euros per night for a 16 sq m room you expect to at least have basic amenities that you find in much cheaper accommodations such as conditioner, body cream, fridge, mini bar, a bottle of water, bathrobe/slippers etc. Additionally, we were impressed that although we had the room cleaned, the sheets were laid over nightgown/pyjamas, which we had left on the bed, while they did not replace toilet paper, pesetas (due to "green policy") hand soap (there was no dispenser!, while there was only one bar of soap) and in general everything that had been used. We would have been very happy if the room cost half the money, but with such a cost of accommodation, you expect if not larger spaces, certainly better amenities and cleanliness.

Great location for a meeting, lunch was great, nothing to complain about

Located on the outskirts of Groningen, this hotel is surrounded by greenery and water, but also quite close to the motorway. From the outside, the hotel is quite attractive, with ample free parking. The entrance area is also nicely open and inviting. All the staff we encountered were incredibly friendly and helpful. However, the rooms were a drawback, especially considering the price. We paid €236 for one night. The room was clean and the beds comfortable (although the pillow was really hard and there was no alternative). It was, however, much too small. The air conditioning didn't work properly (two green lights were constantly flashing alternately), and it was really warm in the room, despite it being a rather cool June day. The windows could only be opened a crack and provided hardly any cooling. There was no ventilation in the bathroom, so it was always humid and warm. The lighting was also rather dim and quite dark, which made it really difficult for me to put on my makeup in the morning. Breakfast could be added for €20 per person. It was really good and varied. The hotel offers a free shuttle service. From 10:00 AM onwards, there is an hourly shuttle to and from the city center. It takes about 30 minutes to walk to the city center. Overall, the hotel was okay, but for the price, we were disappointed with the rooms.

Very nice hotel, great restaurant and bar, good beds, spacious rooms and a lovely small pool, perfect for a weekend in Groningen. There is a shuttle bus that takes you to and from the city center for free. Highly recommended!
