FLOATS by H2OTEL is a unique floating 3-star hotel in Rotterdam's Wijnhaven, with a prime location right in the city center. The hotel is built on former American cargo ships from World War II, which have been converted into a floating hotel with approximately 49 rooms. My room was compact, but comfortable and clean, with a great bed. The staff was friendly and welcoming, which immediately created a pleasant atmosphere. The restaurant is also highly recommended, offering a good breakfast and a beautiful terrace overlooking the water. The location makes it ideal for exploring Rotterdam, with all the highlights within walking distance. Minor downsides are the noise level and the limited space, but the unique experience on the water more than makes up for this.
First off: The hotel is in a beautiful and convenient location. A particular highlight is the breakfast served right on the canal in the hotel's own restaurant. However, the breakfast buffet offers rather limited selection for the price. This would be acceptable if there were at least some variety, which unfortunately was never the case during our six-night stay. We were particularly bothered by the fact that butter was served on two days that had clearly been left out in the sun for too long. We pointed this out to the staff, but the server insisted it was fine. We did receive butter from the refrigerator upon request, but it too had already thawed and appeared to have been left out in the heat for too long. Fresh butter wasn't provided until three days later. Regarding the rooms: They are quite nice, although, as one would expect on a ship, somewhat noisy. It would be desirable if all guests were a little more considerate, which unfortunately wasn't always the case. The beds are made up with sheets, not fitted sheets. If you move around during the night, these slip, and you wake up on the bare mattress the next morning. Room service wasn't always on top of things when it came to refilling shampoo, tissues, etc., but the room was otherwise clean. You can rent bicycles at the hotel. We felt €16 per day was a bit expensive, but the bikes were mostly in good working order. As for the staff, the experience unfortunately varies greatly depending on the individual. We also had some unfriendly moments at reception. I expect staff to proactively approach guests and not make you feel like you're supplicating something at checkout, interrupting the two receptionists' private chat. After a six-day stay, one would also expect to at least be asked how we enjoyed our stay.
We stayed two nights at FLOATS H2OTEL in Rotterdam. What a fantastic experience! The location is really top-notch; just a few minutes' walk from Blaak station, and you can easily reach the Markthal, the Erasmus Bridge, and the city center. Sleeping on a boat in itself is simply a very enjoyable experience. The outdoor terrace on the pontoons by the water is super; it's very cozy in the evening with all the lights and the comfortable lounge sofas. Breakfast is buffet style, which we really appreciate. That was basically fully equipped, but it could be a bit more extensive. We had a Junior room, which is a small room but has everything you need. The air conditioning in the room was great now that we are in the middle of a heatwave and worked perfectly. The porthole with a view of the water was also very nice. The beds are small, but nice and soft, and we slept well. The bathroom is really very small; keep in mind that the shower entrance is very tight. As a plus-size person, I really had to squeeze myself in, which was not a relaxing experience. If you are pregnant or larger like me, I would definitely book a slightly larger room. For us, two nights was fine because everything surrounding it was so incredibly well organized, but next time we will book the larger room. Finally – The staff are truly fantastic. Big shout-out to the restaurant staff. We will definitely be back at FLOATS!
Nice, quiet place, comfortable, in the heart of Rotterdam. Tasty breakfast, lovely deck on the water by the restaurant/breakfast area. I had some local questions and the receptionist was able to help me well with that information.
In the middle of the night, the ceiling on our bed leaked, we had to urgently move to a new room. We were told that we would get some discount for the inconvenience but no one ever contacted us about it. We rented bikes for 16 e for 24 hours which were a total wreck, visibly unmaintained, brakes not working. The staff was great, the location is good, the rooms look decent, it's a shame that I have to give only 2 stars.
Convenient, centrally located place for a reasonable price. Nice location on the water. Friendly staff. Unfortunately, there is a sewer pipe above the bed in room 39 through which you can hear the toilet and shower water running. There is also a toilet smell before entering the restaurant. Next time, I would like a different room... but with a view of the water again.
