For me, staying at the Grand Hotel Bucharest was also a little trip down memory lane. In the 80s and 90s, the Hotel Intercontinental was considered one of the most sought-after addresses in the city. Therefore, it had long been a wish of mine to stay there. The rooms are generally well-equipped, and the beds are very comfortable. However, the bathroom only had a bathtub. Furthermore, the shower curtain looked rather dated and was partially yellowed. The room door also closed with a distinct slam, which could be disruptive. Unfortunately, breakfast was disappointing. The selection was rather limited and heavily focused on an English breakfast. I would have liked more variety and higher quality. A big compliment goes to the staff at reception. The team was extremely professional, always friendly, helpful, and very accommodating. Moreover, the staff made a very well-groomed impression. Unfortunately, the Corso restaurant could not live up to its former reputation. Neither the food nor the service impressed us. Furthermore, only English was spoken, which isn't ideal for every guest. Overall, it was wonderful to fulfill a long-held wish and spend a night in this historic hotel. However, in my opinion, the Grand Hotel Bucharest now lives more off its former glory than its current offerings. With some modernization and greater attention to detail, the hotel could come much closer to its former reputation.
Parking is reasonably priced. Car rental company on site.
Stayed there with friends. Nice stay and there is a spa and sauna area on the top floor.
The location is very convenient. That's where the pluses end. We booked a suite with a jacuzzi and a mini bar. The jacuzzi has probably been broken for a long time (none of the handles worked). There is no mini bar. The refrigerator was empty, it worked for heating - the first time I've seen this. The furniture in the room is broken. The room was not cleaned - they probably forgot. For breakfast, to get an egg, you had to wait a good thirty minutes. And then find a table where you could sit. It definitely makes no sense to book a suite.
Pretty bad. The shower is in a very high bathtub, making it difficult to get out without falling. The shower sprays water outside the bathtub. The carpets in the rooms are very old. The rooms seem like they belong in a 3-star hotel. The reception staff is unpleasant. There are no Spanish-speaking staff at reception. They don't even have a single umbrella to lend to guests. The breakfast is meager, and there are long queues.
This hotel is a disaster. Typical abandoned run down 5-star that should really be a 2-3 star due to poor management. The air-con didn’t work and even after telling them they couldn’t fix it and we were not offered a new room. We came for a wedding and the hotel iron was unusable due to the amount of dirt on it. I then asked for a new one but even the new one was extremely dirty. The walls are dirty and there are holes in the furniture. This is by far the worst 5-star hotel I have ever stayed in and I would highly recommend booking elsewhere. On a positive note, the gym is extremely good for a hotel gym and the staff is relatively friendly.
