I’m writing reluctantly but I hope constructively regarding two recent visits to the Sheffield Arms. Firstly on a positive note the pub side has improved significantly over the last few years however the restaurant - apart from the Carvery cooked by a proper chef - is abysmal. The menu is a miscellany of cheap bought in items including the worst mashed potato ever - reconstructed into a hard lumpy concoction. The gravy is a dreadful lumpy brown unpourable tasteless liquid. The chips frozen and the bought in pies with hard pastry with gristly meat are dreadful, along with gammon with hard fried eggs. My friend had prawns and scampi both of which she found inedible. The majority of the items are just microwaved and shoved on plates. A message to the manager - you have missed a trick! The Sheffield Arms has huge potential to be one of the best pubs in North Lincolnshire - it just needs a proper chef and a decent menu! The top restaurants always have a blackboard with regional imaginative dishes along with a “specials” wine list. YOU REALLY ARE MISSING A TRICK!

Been before for Sunday dinner and was quality, unfortunately this visit the food fell short of that. Steak and ale pie, not much steak in there and the pastry was solid, mushy peas had hard dry patches in them. The only positive was the home cooked chips, fluffy inside and crispy outside, delicious. Won’t be rushing back unfortunately

Visited the Sheffield Arms in Burton two weeks ago and had a lovely experience, which is why I returned today with a friend for a birthday treat. Unfortunately, this visit was completely different and I was surprised I was even in the same establishment. Since having bariatric surgery, I can only eat very small portions — around 6 mouthfuls before feeling full. I’m not trying to be cheap; I simply hate waste and would rather pay fairly for food I can actually manage. On my previous visit I was allowed a child’s carvery plate, and I’ve also visited during the week and ordered from the children’s menu without issue. Today, however, I was told I could not have a child’s portion. We spoke with the manager, Kelly, who refused to make an exception despite me explaining the circumstances. The only compromise offered was a small reduction because I’m vegetarian and wouldn’t be eating meat. I do want to add that the young man serving us was extremely apologetic, kind, and completely understanding of the situation. He handled it professionally and the issue was absolutely not his fault. What made the experience even more uncomfortable was overhearing Kelly discussing me with colleagues at the bar while I was walking to the carvery area, which felt extremely unprofessional and quite embarrassing. Then, when I returned to the table, she visibly looked over my plate to assess how much food I had taken, which made me feel very self-conscious. To make matters worse, the Yorkshire pudding was flat and floppy, and the carrots were undercooked. Overall it was a really disappointing experience, especially compared to how good our previous visit had been.

Whats not to love in a village with the BEST pub food around & friendliness. Sunday lunch carvery with all the help yourself trimmings (and you can go back for more) at a fantastic price of £14.95. Good selection of beers, lagers and cider on draught and I would just say, book in advance if a Sunday, or special occasion for a meal, when a few might be dining. Every one was very much on the ball, with service and returning to our table to see if everything was OK once we were served. Our visit always is definitely 5*. Not our local, (we discovered it 2 years ago) but coming down from Teesside for the Scunthorpe Speedway, we've made it our 'go to' venue beforehand. Simply the best.

Was just popping in for a drink but ended up having food, very friendly staff and a great polite stand in food server. Food well cooked and very tasty, carvery has a wide selection of choices, along with the meats you have sausage in onion gravy and a very nice gammon pie (potatoe top), which was so enjoyable. Thank you

Food was great quality, fresh, hot and tasty - all that can be asked of a carvery! Options were also plentiful, as beef cobbler and fish pie were also options for the carvery which I haven’t seen anywhere else. Staff were polite and attentive, and cost was reasonable. Thank you to the team for giving us such a positive experience!
