There is something for everyone in this oasis of a city park. While cranes are constructing new buildings in booming Victoria, the sound of blue herons & other birds can calm you as you wonder around. Today I took in the vista view of the Salish Sea from atop the park's highest point of land. You can still drive up the paved road heading south from the main parking area. Stay in your car or rest on a nearby bench. It will give you a chance to see the world for what it is: Large with possibilities!
Beacon Hill Park was actually the highlight of our stay in Victoria for us. The combination of beautiful parkland, water, peace and quiet, and above all the many animals impressed us particularly. We had several encounters with wild animals and were able to observe deer, peacocks, ducks, and various birds, among others. The deer and the free-roaming peacocks in particular were something very special for us. In addition, there are beautiful paths, ponds, and flower gardens. We could have easily spent even more time there because there was something new to discover around every corner. From our personal perspective, you should definitely plan to visit Beacon Hill Park when in Victoria. For us, it was the most beautiful place in the city and definitely a highlight of our trip.
I had heard this was a neat and scenic place to wander during a cruise stop here in Victoria. It is a decent walk from the cruise port or shuttle stop but I feel its worth the scenic stroll. It is very large, and has many pathways, but has lush greenery and other botanicals. We enjoyed our stroll by the ponds and the bridge, We saw turtles and herons/cranes. There so large trees and flowers. We strolled past the moss lady and the beacon hill totem pole. At the end we curved toward the water and walked along the water for a while as well. Overall it was a pleasant stroll through the park and many other patrons were enjoying the park as well. Its nice to walk through.
Walked to the park from our hotel. Plenty of trails to do & lots of wildlife including ducks, deer, peacocks & squirrels. We took the trail out to the ocean which had some stunning views. Then followed the coast path down to breakwater lighthouse and back into down town.
The park was our first stop after arriving by cruise ship. We were very impressed with the park and its upkeep. As we later found out, the entire city is well maintained, and we found it enjoyable to walk around. We really enjoyed the various areas of the park. We had researched ahead of time what we wanted to see, and this was helpful as we made our way around.
It's cruise ship season in Victoria BC. Thousands embark on a whirlwind day while in harbour. Many jump on buses, pedicabs or taxis to go far afield. Pity. Locals in the James Bay area have a gem of a park within walking distance (15 minutes) of the docks. Saunter east along Dallas Road, cross at the Terry Fox statue and there you'll spy acres of well maintained ponds, trees and shrubbery. Why go to Butchart Gardens when Beacon Hill is free in perpetuity?
We visited here one afternoon, walked a lot, saw peacocks, ducks, geese and beautiful trees. A few ponds, flower beds and many paths made it a great way to spend a couple hours. We walked up to the peak for wonderful views. When we got back to the car, we watched a local cricket match for awhile. A very pleasant day.
Locals favorite with a bus stop.
Oh how I missed this park. Returned to Victoria for a visit and stopped here for a few hours. Oh the peacocks - beautiful!! The squirrels scampering around the park visitors along with the ducks. Green grass and beautiful gardens. Such a fabulous place to unwind.
A beautiful place to visit and spend as much or little time as you'd like. Lots of birds all over the grounds (including peacocks). Parking is free and you are close to the mile zero monument as a bonus.
