Atheneum Suite Hotel

Nice hotel, cheap parking garage across the street, clean rooms, comfy beds, perfect location.

Room had hairs and dirt in the bathroom and bed and carpet had not been vacuumed. The staff was rude when being asked questions and the shuttle driver almost got us in a wreck and was making disgusting sexual comments! I asked for a supervisor to call me three times and it never happened.

I normally don't review places, but I felt the need to warn people about this hotel... I don't recommend staying there for more than a night. Our room was extremely dirty and we noticed that the air filter probably hadn't been changed since 2010. My husband thought the air filter cover was a drop down table, so he pulled the door and when it dropped down we saw a solid inch of thick, black dust that had built up on the room's air filter. Also, beware of the vallet's sticky fingers. My husband's work phone was in the center counsel of his work truck, and when our vallet returned the truck, my husband's phone was missing. We went back inside to ask if they had seen it and one of the young men at the vallet desk had a very worried look on his face. He then opened a drawer at the vallet stand, pulled the phone out, and handed it to my husband. My husband just looked at him funny and the young man just said, "Oh I we were just holding it for you and figured you'd come back and ask for it." Sketchyyyy. Won't be staying there ever again!

Even better than expected! You can tell it's not a new hotel but it's super clean, well maintained and the staff is absolutely incredible. The room cleaning staff is especially wonderful asking us how our stay was and just striking up a genuine conversation all the time. Will 100% come back. Location is great also, walking distance to pretty well anything downtown Detroit.

Valet and check in was quick and pleasant. Everyone was very nice. My room was very clean and the a.c. was nice and cold.

Staff was so rude for no reason. Tried to get a shuttle to the conference center but didn’t know how it worked, whether it was owned by the conference center or the hotel itself. Apparently it is the hotel itself. I asked if I needed to request it and what it looks like and they were very rude and short with me telling me essentially it comes to the front door and to wait for it which seems simple but they were very annoyed that I didn’t know. I go out an ask the valet if the van that sat out there with the hotel name on it was the shuttle and the valet tells me I need to go to the front desk but as he is telling me he is very creepy and every time i took a step back he took a step closer and I took at least 6 steps back before giving him a dirty look and went to the front desk. I approach the front desk and ask “how are you?” Which i was ignored and then I asked again “how are you?” He says good very short and just stares at me. I was flustered at this point and apologized and said “sorry everyone is just acting really weird here today” and he said “did I just get off the phone with you?” And I said yes, and he said “i am not weird I was just asking you questions.” And i responded “i didnt say you were weird I said you were not nice” at this point my patience was out. Also thinking about the phone call he never asked me any questions, just short answers and when I proceeded to ask more questions he was rude short and made me feel like an idiot for even asking. My questions weren't self explanatory. How would I know what the shuttle is? I was just told by someone on my team from work to call that number and ask. Finally he walks away with no resolution and I sit down awkward because I am just trying to get to my work conference and don’t If the shuttle is coming or how to get on it. Finally I ask another person in the lobby who was going to the same conference and the person from behind the desk came out and pointed to the shuttle. I was very upset that something so simple had to be so complicated and tried to be kind to everyone even though they were not very kind to me. Very hurtful and upsetting, especially considering the price we were paying to stay there.

Staff was very rude and unfriendly.

I booked handicap room. I also requested good view and upper most floor. The room was adequate but the arrangement is not for Handicap/ senior citizens friendly. The shower does have a bench but too far from shower. Near shower there is no shel to put soap, shampoo, conditioner etc. so you start shower and then walk to bench to get the soap. Someday some one is going to slip and fall while going back and forth between getting soap, shampoo etc. Location is good, ambience ok and service ok

Corey the bell hop made our trip the success it was. We loved him!!! Our family was in town for the Bruno Mars concert and he was on top of everything. When we come back he will be the first person we ask for! Thank you, Corey, for the experience, your kindness, and just being at the top of your game.
