The Sports Bra

Rad place and after reading an article on their plans and financials, etc… they’re bottlenecking their own progress by alienating people like me. I’m not a member of the lgbtq community and because of that, I probably won’t go back even though I loved it. The 2% of people who are part of that community are welcome there but the 98% of people who aren’t, are sort of left in a weird “should I be here?” kind of place. It’s not like they say we can’t or shouldn’t, but it’s an unsaid, kind of negative vibe. It comes with looks from patrons, and even kind of a weird vibe right from “oh, hi.” Nobody was rude but nobody was welcoming. I was obviously not having a great time which, that’s my own problem nobody else’s but it just goes back to what I was saying. When you alienate 98% of the population, you can’t build a profitable business in that industry without stepping over into a totally different type of bar which I don’t think they want to do. I know they want to be successful and I hope they are, but think of all of the club level teams, college teams, families of those teams, fans of those teams who aren’t lgbtq. There should just be a focus on women’s sports and that’s it. Beer and food, chicks scoring points, winning, looking great, boom, done. Sorry but I think your thunder is absolutely going to be stolen by a different company who knows how to run a business. This isn’t a social club. If it is, it should not be open to the public and it should be noted a such.

I had long looked forward to checking out this bar. Went in for the Fire away game yesterday. Bar was crowded, understandably. The staff were cool, except for the one bartender who was blond, black t-shirt and dark frame glasses. My card was declined when I went to pay for a pint. I went thru 2 more, and then stepped out of line to sort it out. Figured it out within minutes and went ahead of the 2 guys in front of me to pay. Only reason I stepped ahead was because she had already poured my cider. I figured she couldn't serve it to another person, and I didn't want her to have to pour it out. She told me to go to the back of the line basically. OK. Got my pint, paid in full, all good. I decide to get food, like an hour later. I order from the other bartender, brunette, black shirt, dark framed glasses. She was friendly and professional. Called back to the other bartender to pour my pint and place order for cheese curds, as she was washing her hands/making a cocktail. The blonde bartender looks at me, and says to her, do we even still have cheese curds? To which the other bartender said, yeah, we do; I hope so cuz I just ordered them for so & so. Anyway, the server was cool as was the food runner. Cheese curds were yummy and plentiful. Seating is so limited and people camp out for the entirety of games, so SOL if you don't claim a seat early. Also, I called the day before to ask about any game day specials. Person who answered was unsure, so they put phone down to check. I could hear the convo on the other end. Person who answered phone didn't know diff between Thorns and the Fire and when the staff members who did know diff asked which one, they said I don't remember. Meanwhile I said Fire game like 2 minutes before. Yikes. Wouldn't return, wouldn't recommend. Too bad, because this is such a great concept. P.S. my initial card was declined because the bartender ran my card for $40 instead of $8. Got an email from the bank with why transaction was declined.

Chill Portland sports bar - tvs everywhere - food simple and tasty drinks well made and the service was great.
